THE EXOTIC DANCER CHAPTER 041

"Momma"

"You and Lucy can take the bedroom and i'll take the couch alright?" Max whispered to me while we stood in the kitchen. I looked over at him and nodded, any other time i may have argued not wanting to put him out but i wasn't in the mood to argue at the moment.

I watched as Lucy made herself comfortable in front of the TV, switching through all of the channels with quick precision. She looked so happy and i couldn't help but feel a bit bothered by it. I was glad she was happy, Lucy being happy was the reason for everything but it just made me sad to think i couldn't provide the things that brought this kind of happiness.

"Is there anything in there i need to worry about?" I asked, honestly worried.

He was about to say no but quickly decided he better go check. I followed, curious to know what in his room qualified as not suitable for my little sister to see.

The first place he went to was the bedside table, rummaging through it for a second before pulling out a small pill bottle. I stood there, arms crossed like a concerned parent when he turns and sees me.

He holds it up innocently. "I get headaches," he explained, quickly dropping his hand before giving me time to read the label. I was more than sure that whatever was inside was not for headaches though.

"I don't have to worry about her finding any female undergarments do i?" I ask with a bit of a smile as i let myself fall back on his bed. I hate arguing with him, i know things won't ever go back to the way they were and things will never be considered 'normal' again but i was going to try my very best to at least lighten the mood.

He chuckled, shaking his head before tossing an extra blanket up beside me. "You know i dont bring girls home Shay." he corrected.

I did know. It was something i admire about him although i didn't know why. He always worked hard to keep himself safe, i made me sad to think that skill only seemed to connect with women and not crazy drug dealers.

I could tell he was still on edge, and i knew the next couple days... weeks even we're going to be hard. Max was an addict that was something i knew but had trouble accepting. He was going to need my help and i was going to have to buckle up for the ride

We were all going to get through this. Me, Lucy, and Max.

They were the only family i had, Joe too of course but i would be foolish to think he would be around forever. I knew, he knew, i think even Lucy was tuning into it. Joe was getting older and time was taking its toll on his body.
