THE EXOTIC DANCER CHAPTER 007✔ "A Walk In The Park"
I'm glad Joe decided to take this walk with us, the fresh air will be good for him. Grass reaches up over our shoes as we walk. A chilly air blows past us, everything here seems so peaceful. Even with the energetic kids running around. There are birds chirping in an overhead nest causing a smile to arise on Joe's face.
We slow down our pace so Joe can keep up, he looks around in every direction taking every one of his steps gingerly. Me and Megan each holding onto one of his hands as we walk him along.
He continues to tell us stories of the good times. About the happy life he had and all the ones he loved. Ahead of us is a shiny red swing set. He is quick to let go of our hands and trace his along the metal links of the chains.
"Corrine loved this place. It's been around for a long time." He says with his smile beginning to turn to sadness. When he talks about Corrine it's a 50/50 chance in the emotion. Happiness remembering the good times he spent with her. Or sadness remembering how he will never get back to those times.
Im about to turn and console him when my phone vibrates in my back pocket. When i pull it out and lift it in front of my face to check the collar ID i see it is the one and only Max. Of course it would be him. Nobody else likes to disrupt my peace more than Max.
I excuse myself from the group, walking off a bit to a lone tree over my the playground before answering the call. "Hello? What do you want Max?"
I hear him scoff lightly over the line. "Hey, look i need you here on time tonight. None of this late shit you've been pulling lately. I need you here, okay?" he asks. "Yeah.. okay. Whats going on?" I hear him sigh into the phone. "Just be here." Is the last thing he says to me before the call clicks off.
Well.... Someones in a mood.
On my way back to the group i see Megan and Joe walking through the grass once again. A smile reappearing on his face. Pushing his cheeks up and revealing the lines on his forhead.
I like seeing him happy. I like seeing everyone happy. But I guess sometimes that's too much to ask when you live in a world like this one. ---------------- Lunch was easy. When we got back i went right to making spaghetti while he sang along to old songs i played for him on my phone. Before i know it Joe is pulling Megan and me away from our stations, wanting us to dance with him. Of course we agree, swaying along to a song ive never heard before.
"That night Vivian told me I needed to get out of my head. I think that's good advice for you Shailene" he says moving his feet swiftly to the music as he pulls us along to the song. Its upbeat with a quick tempo. He seems to be pretty good at staying on beat with the song, at least for a man of his age.
