Chapter 21

[Serena POV]

I opened my eyes slowly, adjusting them to the room light. It was a quite familiar sight, I turned my head around and saw it all, then I realized I'm back at home, I mean Ash's home and this was his room. I sat up slowly and looked around. I saw Ash at his study table but he was busy in doing something.

I got up from my bed and walked to him. He noticed me and turned his head back. “Hey Serena, how are you feeling?” He asked with a bright smile, I smiled back at him. “I'm feeling good.” I replied. “What happened at the test on me?” I asked, “oh it was great, the power of the jewel is increasing day by day. So you'll need to learn to control it. Other than that everything is perfect.” He replied, my smile got wider at this, but then I heard Ash sigh. I looked at the desk and saw all the postcards. “What's with all these postcards?” I asked, “oh these, well…. These are some requests from a trainer. He wants to battle Satoshi, the pokemon master. That is me of course.*sigh*Should I accept his request or not?” Ash asked, “not that I'm scared to lose but, I don't want the people to see me in public yet.” He added, I thought at it for a moment then. “You know, you can use a disguise. And I wouldn't want to hurt a fan if he wants to battle me so bad.” I replied, he looked at me with a smile, “I guess you're right. I'll send him a letter in acceptance.”

After that Ash put all the cards at the side of the table and we went down to the garden. “Okay everyone I have an announcement for you.” Ash called out loud, all of his Pokemons heard him and came near us. They gathered around us in a circle. “I've got a request from a trainer to battle him. And I decided to accept his challenge. So I'm going to train all of you and make you battle ready because I'll ask the trainer to choose his opponent, and he can choose any one of you so get ready.”Ash told, all of his Pokemons cried out their sounds in determination. After this we decided to go to the mall to get Ash a disguise.

Me and leaf went to a girls store while Ash went on alone to get himself the clothes. After an hour we met at a restaurant near the park. Ash showed his clothes which consists of a blue hooded jacket, dark grey jeans, black fingerless gloves and a mask that only exposed his eyes and forehead. He decided to ditch his cap this time because of the hood. Me and leaf also bought something for us, well not really for us but for Ash's birthday party. We haven't told him about it, as we want it to be a surprise. And we aren’t telling it to anyone yet, we'll tell on 20th. So everyone will get some time to get ready and purchase gifts till 25th.

We ate our dinner at the restaurant then returned back home. Since leaf was really tired she quickly fell asleep in her room, I went to our room to see Ash at his table. I walked near him and saw he was writing something. “What's this Ash?” I asked as I reached there, it looked like a message. “I'm just writing a reply to the trainer.” He replied, “great!” I said then went to bathroom.

When I came out, I looked out of the window and saw Ash's Pokemons, they were training among themselves, while Pikachu and his more stronger ones were giving orders to the weak and small ones. They also helped some Pokemon to get on their attacks and defense. I then turned my head towards the bed, and saw Ash laying there and staring at the ceiling. He looked a bit tensed which made me concerned. I walked to his side and sat on the bed beside him. He broke off his trance and looked at me. “Are you alright?” I asked in a soft voice.

“Yeah I'm fine, I was just… Just thinking.” He sighed, this made me even more sad. “You can tell me, it will make you feel light.” I said, he gazed in my eyes, “I'll be out in Kanto for a few days so you'll have to be here without me with Leaf.” He told, “oh… So how many days will it take?” I asked, I felt sad because we had planned a party for his birthday and now we may not be able to celebrate it. “Just three or four days only, … Maybe..” he said and mumbled the last word. “So, you'll be back by 23rd?” I asked with a feeling of hope. “I hope so…” I replied with a sigh. “Okay, just be careful.” I said then stood up and walked to the other side of the bed, “yeah, I will.” He replied then closed his eyes, I also got on the bed and laid down a little further from him. I closed my eyes and drifted off.

---Next morning---

“Okay Leaf, remember what I told you. Listen to Serena and don't do anything ridiculous. Stay safe okay, I'll meet you again when I'll come back.” Ash told to Leaf, he was about to leave for a few days to Kanto. I don't understand why he had to go there for days, I mean, he can return here anytime he wants. Maybe he is just caring for his Pokemons, they would surely get tired from continuous flying. “Okay, please come back soon. I'll miss you.” Leaf said in a sad tone. Ash gave her a small nod.

“Greninja, I'm going to keep you in charge for the protection of Serena and Leaf. You'll accompany Serena to school and keep her safe. Your training is still not complete so I can't take the risk of getting you hurt, so I can't take you to Kanto yet. Meet you later pal.” Ash said as he put his hand on Greninja’s shoulder. “GREN!” Greninja replied with confirmation and determination.

Finally Ash turned to me. He gave me bright smile, which I returned back. “Serena, you know this that your security is my responsibility, and I promised your mom of keeping you safe from Team Rocket. I know you feel insecure when I'm not with you, but I'm sorry I have to go. But don't you worry, I'll be back in a few days. Just don't leave Greninja's side. I promise he will be there to protect you until I'm back.” He said with small smile. I nodded at him, I had tears welling up my eyes but I held them, not wanting to show them to Ash. However Leaf couldn't handle it and broke down. She lunged at Ash and hugged him near his waist. “Please…. b-be okay …...and …… and return soon.” She said while crying, Ash kneeled down to get height and gave her a hug, comforting the little girl. “Don't worry Leaf, I'll be back soon.” He said while giving her a pat. I tried to keep myself from crying but unconsciously a tear ran down my cheek, I quickly wiped it so Ash doesn't see them, but then more tears started to flow. I sniffed between the breaths. Ash looked from the hug at me, he moved his hand forward for me to join. I came forward and kneeled down and hugged him. He placed a hand on my back and gave small strokes to calm me down, “don't cry you two, I promise I'll be back soon.” He said with confidence. He removed his head from the hug and kissed Leaf's forehead, then on my forehead, my cheeks flared up and turned red. He broke the hug but held our cheeks with each of his hand and rubbed them with his thumb. He then stood up, I followed his actions. “Serena, I have a request for you as well. Please send the letter to the trainer. I have kept it on my table.” He said, “okay.” I said with a nod.

Then he turned around and opened the door, we stepped out and saw Pidgeot waiting for Ash at the porch. Ash hopped on his back and wanted at us before Pidgeot flew up. We watched them until they ran out of sight.

I was still staring in the direction, until a voice interrupted me, “I thought you'd kiss him. But I think that's for another time.” I turned around to see Amy sigh. My cheeks burned at her comment. “Wha…? I….d-don’t … Love..h-him.” I lied. “Oh come on, Serena I know you love my brother, I can see it in your eyes.” Leaf chimed in, I was taken aback on the words from her. How can she know about these things she is just 4 years old. “No… That's not….. t-true.” I said while hiding my blush, which I failed big time. They both chuckled at this. I glanced at Greninja, and he gave me a nod, which meant that it was true. I felt so embarrassed that I ran in side the house and to Ash's room. I could hear the laughs from downstairs. I sighed before thinking about Ash being my boyfriend. I smiled in my mind then started to get ready for school.
