I frowned. 'Bassy?' I thought and crossed my arms. "Hello, Grell." Sebastian replied with an annoyed expression. "Grell?" I asked. The man looked at me and frowned. "Who is she!? And why do you have a little girl with you?" This supposed 'Grell' stepped forward glaring at us angrily. "I'm sorry, I'm lost here." I said and placed my hands on my hips. "Who are you?" Grell asked. "I am Madame Jae." I said. Grell sighed of relief and lowered his chainsaw. "So you're another human's butler are you?" He asked and walked towards Sebastian. I grabbed Matilda into my arms and stood back. She held me tightly and closed her eyes. "Mommy." She cried. Did she call me...no! She couldn't be talking about me. Grell fawned over Sebastian with a loving gaze. "Grell, don't stand so close." Sebastian pushed at Grell's face, pushing him away. "Awe! But I missed you Bassy!" Grell said. "It's been who knows how many years!"
Sebastian sighed. "It's only been ten years." He replied. Sebastian looked at me and through Grell to the side. Sebastian walked over to me. "So sorry. This is an old acquaintance of mine named Grell. He's a reaper." I raised an eyebrow at him and smiled. "A reaper? That means he collects souls of the dead?" I asked. Sebastian nodded. "When they find the source of the soul, they look over a cinematic record of the soul's life to comprehend the soul's destination." Sebastian was saying all this in a quick manner.
"Death or Life?" I asked.
"Glad to see you're catching on." Sebastian replied. It all made sense since Sebastian was a demon. Somehow I kind of expected something like this to happen one day and here it is. "Take me home, Mommy!" Matilda cried. Sebastian's eyes widened in surprise. I blushed at the name and bit my lip. I hushed Matilda and rubbed her back softly. "Hold on, we're leaving, okay?" I said and she nodded. "Sebastian hurry up." I whispered. He nodded and turned to Grell. "Grell, what exactly are you doing here?" He asked. "I just finalized the session of taking some lady named Kirsten's soul for the day."
"Kirsten?" I asked.
"Yes, Madame Kirsten Willow Milford who was scheduled to die a few hours ago. Number six billion and fifty three million and one hundred twenty two thousand and five hundred. Right on time. But the others before her were not on the list, so I'm here to investigate why they have achieved their death note before its normal schedule." Grell seemed pretty excited at what he was saying. I was very impressed. "Very well." I said. My arms were losing its strength. "Sebastian, hold Matilda." I said. I then noticed Matilda had cried herself to sleep and was quietly snoring in my ear. "She's asleep." I said. I handed her over to Sebastian and walked over to Grell. "I'm quite impressed with you. Care to join us for another time? We could use a reaper like you to come along." I asked. Grell squealed in happiness. "Of course! I wouldn't give up any minute with Bassy!"
Okay, that nickname is really getting on my last nerve.
"Oh, Bassy. The Undertaker is also in town today,so be careful~!" And with those words, Grell jumped to the rooftops and disappeared. I turned to Sebastian. "Undertaker?" I asked. Sebastian sighed. "Would it be alright to explain later, Jae?" He asked. It was getting late and Matilda was already fast asleep. "Sure."
Back at the manor, I lied Matilda in my bed. "She'll sleep with me tonight. I'll introduce her to Maddie and the maidens tomorrow morning." I said as Sebastian buttoned up my lace gown. When he finished, I unbuttoned Matilda's shirt and unzipped her pants. "Hand me my purple gown." I ordered and, Sebastian handed it to me from the closet. I removed Matilda's clothes and gave them to Sebastian. As I buttoned the gown, Matilda smiled in her sleep. "We shall buy her some new clothes tomorrow as well." I stated. Sebastian bowed in response. "Goodnight, Jae." I wrapped my arms around Matilda, protecting her from whatever happens. I will protect her from any harm I can. "What a lovely mother you make." Sebastian teased. I smiled at his joke. "I couldn't just let her go back to that man she calls Master, who whips her non stop. I will not tolerate that behavior towards Matilda." I gently placed a few strands of hair from Matilda's face to the back of her right ear. I will do anything to protect this little girl. Even if I have to treat her like my daughter. I would. I kissed her forehead and fell asleep next to her.
I felt something wet drop onto my cheek and I frowned. Then I heard a howling noise in my ear. My eyes shot open, and I could see Matilda crying in my arms. "Bloody. Bloody is here." she whispered. I looked in the corner of my eye and saw a blood hound growling hastily at us. Its eyes were dark red and its teeth were huge and sharp. I wanted to call Sebastian, but my voice was weak from surprise. When the dog howled again, Matilda screamed at the top of her lungs: "Sebastian!"
My bedroom door swung open, and I covered Matilda with my body. She shivered under me, closing her eyes tightly. I could hear the dog howl and whimper in pain, and I covered Matilda's ears from the noise. Suddenly everything stopped. With my hands over her ears, I looked up to find the dog dead and blood around its body. "Hurry and clean it up." I ordered and Sebastian began to clean up the scene. I looked at Matilda and wiped her tears with my thumbs. "It's okay. It's alright Matilda." I tried to comfort her in my arms, and soon, she stopped crying. "It was Bloody. Master sent him. I'm scared." Matilda held onto me and his her face in my shoulder. Bloody found her that easily? How could that be? Did he have a connection so he could find her?
Sebastian came up to me, pulling on the wrist of a clean glove."Your room is clean, Jae." He said. I looked at the room, and the dog was gone and so was the blood. I sat up and sighed. "Was that..." my voice trailed off. Matilda looked up at me and sniffed. "It was Bloody..He knows where I am." I looked at Sebastian who was in deep thought. "But Bloody is gone now, so how will your Master find you?" Sebastian asked. Matilda crawled under my arm and hid from the window. "He follows Bloody." She said. My heart jumped and it felt as if my pulse was beating in every part of my body. I looked out the window, but saw nothing. "I'm sorry, I got you in trouble!" Matilda cried. I cradled her in my arms and held her tight. "Don't worry, we're fine. We're fine." I tried to calm her down, but she continued to tremble in fear. I had no other choice, but to sing to her.
Sebastian's POV:
Jae cradled the little girl in her arms, softly singing to her. I watched in silence as Jae held Matilda as if it were her own child. The way she held her, talked to her, and comforted her. It was like nothing I has seen before. I had never seen Jae so overprotective. Jae held Matilda close and wiped her tears. She even covered Matilda with her own life when that dog attacked them. "Jae." I called her named. From her singing, Jae opened her eyes, and they glistened like diamonds.
"Are you alright?" Sebastian asked. I smiled. "I believe so." I picked Matilda up and got out of the bed. "Jae, your back." Sebastian said. I walked over to the mirror and turned around. My back had three bleeding scratch marks on it. "Oh. The dog must've scratched me when I shielded Matilda." I said and sat Matilda on a small chair. Sebastian came up behind me and eyed my wounds. "It's not that deep, but it still might hurt if we don't treat it." I wrapped Matilda in a warm blanket and my door clicked open. Maddie walked in with a frightened look on her face. "What happ-" she saw Matilda and froze in her tracks. I really hope she doesn't get the wrong idea. "Who is this little girl?" Maddie asked. "This is Matilda. I am protecting her from the man who's been poisoning and murdering victims of the murder case. She'll be staying with us until it passes over." I explained everything on what happened a few minutes ago and Maddie was amazed. "You killed the dog, right?" She asked Sebastian. "Yes, Madame." He replied. She sighed of relief and looked back at Matilda, who was now in my arms again, sleeping. She was really scared of that dog. I held her close and rocked her slowly. "Where's her mother?" Maddie asked. I looked down at Matilda and sighed. "I don't think she has any parents." I said. "Oh! Poor dear." She lightly stroked Matilda's head. My back began to burn and I gritted my teeth. "Gah. Hold her for me." I said, and she gently reached for Matilda. After giving off Matilda I stood quickly to my feet and grabbed a hold of Sebastian's wrist. We walked into the bathroom and I closed the door. "These scars. Hurry up and disinfect them. It hurts!" I said. Sebastian unbuttoned my gown and turned my back towards him. He sprayed something on the scars and a burning sensation increased on my back. "Aagh!" I cried. The pain was to much to bear, and I didn't want to worry Maddie or Matilda. I grabbed a small towel and bit onto it for every time I felt pain. "Mmf!" My voice was muffled and soon the pain stopped. I removed the towel and gasped. "It will hurt a little, but for now it is fine." Sebastian said. I leaned on top of the sink and tried to calm my heart rate. "Give me a minute, Sebastian." I said, and I heard the door open and close. This was too much trouble for one little girl. I need to get all of this out of Matilda's head and make her happy. Also who was this Undertaker? Maybe it was time to visit him.
