Matilda and Maddie sat across from me and Sebastian in the carriage. I was wearing the new gold dress Maddie bought me weeks ago and she couldn't stop staring at me. A bright smile was plastered on her face, and I couldn't help but to feel a little embarrassed. "Stop staring at me." I demanded and crossed my arms angrily. Maddie giggled, and Matilda looked out the carriage window, watching the streets happily. "I'm just a excited!" Maddie exclaimed happily. "You're dress is perfect! Just imagine all the compliments you'll receive!" I bit my bottom lip and frowned. That's the problem. I'm not good at receiving so many compliments, yet so many people intend to give them. Maddie sighed. "Okay, I'll be serious this time." She said and smiled at me. "So if something bad happens, I'm Matilda's aunt?" Maddie asked. I nodded and tugged at the satin black ribbon around my neck. It was really tight and itchy. I wonder why Maddie's ribbon isn't bothering her? "And you and Sebastian are...?"
I blushed. She had the idea, so why is she picking on me? I turned my head in annoyance, refusing to answer her. "We are married, and Matilda is our daughter." Sebastian spoke up. My leg began to shake furiously, and I looked out the window. Maddie giggled. "Oh dear. I'm sorry Jallerie." She apologized.
"It's Ja- oh it doesn't really matter." I gave up and felt my face burn. I tugged at my ribbon again, and my eye twitched in frustration. Sebastian suddenly brought his left hand to my neck, and I jumped a little. "Is the ribbon bothering you, Jae?" He asked. His index and middle finger gently slid over the ribbon. "N-No. It's just-" I stammered. "Come now, don't lie." Sebastian whispered and gently pulled my hair behind my left ear. He untied the ribbon and traced his fingers over my neck. "Do you wish to have the ribbon removed?" "Yes." I replied, finally giving up. Sebastian pulled off the ribbon, and I felt my body stiffen. Maddie watched us with an enormous grin on her face. "What?" I asked. "You two fit the part perfectly." She replied.
I blushed at her words. "But," I began,"Sebastian you can't be so formal with me until after the ball." Sebastian looked at me and smiled. I looked back at him and found myself smiling. Matilda jumped up and squealed happily. "That house is so big!" She cried. Maddie looked out the window and smiled. "Yes, it is indeed."
The carriage stopped in front the gigantic manor, and Sebastian helped all of us out. I stepped down and looked up at the manor, that was about thirty seven feet high. I was astonished at the beautiful white bricked manor. Sebastian held out his arm, and I grabbed a hold of it, like I was supposed to. Matilda held my other hand, and Maddie walked on the left side of Sebastian. Other guests walked ahead and behind us as we strolled along the bricked walkway. I gripped Matilda's hand tightly. Any of these guests could be Master or Claude. Was Matilda in danger here somehow? I should keep an eye on her at all times. As we walked inside the lovely building, the inside walls over the ballroom were polished gold. My favorite color. The ceiling was silver and the three golden chandeliers were hanging high above our heads with the beautiful candles shining in each one. I was astounded! There were three stands on a beautiful stage, and an orchestra gently played a loving tune. "Oh my goodness!" Maddie exclaimed. "I have no words to express this place!" Maddie looked up at the ceiling and smiled. "Pretty lights up there!" She pointed up releasing my hand. "Matilda!" I cried, and she froze. "Stay close, okay?" I asked. Matilda nodded in reply. "Don't worry," Maddie called and grabbed Matilda's hand. "I'll take her to the dining table. Would you like some sweets, Matilda?"
"Yes please!" Matilda exclaimed, and they ran off. "Be careful!" I called, but they disappeared into the crowd. I tightened my grip around Sebastian's arm. "I'm sure they'll be fine, Jae." Sebastian assured me. I reached my index finger under my mask and scratched my cheek. This mask was irritating! Of all things, the Host decided a masquerade ball? What was the celebration for anyway? I frantically searched the ballroom with my eyes. There were many guests that attended this ball. Most wore fantastic freshly designed masks, while the others were plain and simple in color and size. "What a party..." A faint voice came from behind us, and I turned around. A man with a black hat and black attire, blue vest and red tie was smiling at us. His silver hair covering the top of his mask, that was designed as a skull with green eyes. "Oh hello." I greeted. The man nodded. "Yes..hihi..hello again."
Again? I looked at the man suspiciously and admired his hands. His nails were two inches long and colored to a dark shade of black. They just like..The Undertaker's! "Undertaker?" I called. "You did it! How amazing. Hihi.. Hello Madame Jae." He bowed politely while laughing quirky to himself. "So interesting to find...hihi... you two here, together."
I blushed and looked away. Undertaker laughed again and held his stomach. "You're flushed face is so hilarious! Hihihi..." Undertaker made fun of me, and I felt heat pour out of my ears. "Why are you here?" I asked, trying to change the subject. Undertaker played with the strands of his hair. "Hihi...I was invited of course, but I don't know who sent that letter. What an interesting party, indeed..." He looked up at Sebastian. "Hihi...Mr.Sebastian. What a lovely mask." He poked the top of Sebastian's mask and giggled. "Pitch black as always...hihi.." Sebastian sighed in annoyance. Undertaker stepped back and played with his fingers. "I shall see you around." He said and began to walk off. I've never seen the Undertaker in a suit before. I feel lucky now that I have, for he looks nice in one. Suddenly the orchestra began to okay loudly and everyone stopped in their tracks. "Oh, the Host is here!"
"I wonder who he is!"
"Of course we won't know. It's a masquerade ball."
I turned to the tall staircase and saw a man with a small white mask on, sitting on the polished clean railing. Is that him? "Good evening everyone!" He exclaimed. He gave himself a push and slid down the railing onto the top of the staircase. "Sorry I am late. I am Sir León! Please enjoy the ball!" He exclaimed and everyone clapped for his grand entrance.
Sir León? I guess he wasn't Master after all, but I need to know for sure. "Sebastian, we need to chat with him." I decided. Sebastian nodded in response. We walked further into the center of the ballroom, and suddenly the orchestra played gently. "Oh dear." Sebastian sighed. I looked around and saw everyone dancing and I blushed. "I'm afraid we have to dance for now." Sebastian said. No! No, no, no, no! I'm not completely sure about dancing in public yet! Sebastian grabbed my hand and gently pulled me close. "Wait! Sebastian-"
"Do not worry." Sebastian pulled me close until our bodies were connected. "You will do fine." He assured me and held my left hand as his left hand held my waist. "Alright." I gave up and placed my right hand on his shoulder. He stepped forward, and I followed his movements. I stared at the rose that was clipped to his suit. "Jae, are you alright?" He asked. I nodded, refusing to look up. Sebastian released my hand and raised my head. I looked up at him and felt my face heat up. "Is something the matter, Jae?" He asked. "No. I'm just not used to dancing in public yet." I said and averted my eyes away from his. Sebastian smiled at me and held my hand again. "Imagine we are practicing once more." He whispered. I closed my eyes trying to imagine, but my heart pace wasn't calming down. "I can't." I complained. "Come now, Jae. Follow the rhythm, light and smoothly." Sebastian stepped lightly on the ballroom floor, and I caught up with him. I opened my eyes and found myself staring into his eyes. "You're going fine." He said. 'I'm ready for this sing to be over! Please hurry!' I pleaded to myself. The music slowed it's pace and finally stopped. I sighed of relief. Sebastian released me and bowed. I gently did a courtesy and sighed again. "What a beautiful dance I might say." Someone called and I saw Sir León approach us. "Oh, why thank you, Sir León." I replied. "The pleasure," León grabbed my right hand and kissed it gently, "is all mine."
I blushed at his gesture. Suddenly, I found out Sebastian wasn't beside me anymore. "Oh you are an amazing dancer!" A woman squealed and I saw a group of women surrounding Sebastian. "And you're so tall!" Another woman exclaimed. Sebastian sighed. I guess he doesn't like that much attention. "My, Who might that be?" León asked. "Oh, why that's my husband, Sebastian Michaelis." I tried to keep calm while facing the Host, but my body kept shaking. León sighed and stepped closer to me. "What a rude husband." He grabbed my hand and kissed it gently once more. "Very rude. A husband should never leave his lady's side at all times. He'd have to have the heart of a demon to be so cruel." I jumped at the word 'demon' as it slipped from his mouth.
