Chapter 27: Two Days of Worry

I strolled through the garden, admiring the roses and tried to clear my mind. Everything was becoming cloudy and dark, forcing me to stay away. I couldn't focus on anything, not even on myself. I'm not strong enough to understand any of my feelings. I guess I'm just not as strong as I thought I was. I looked up at the blue sky and sighed.

"I'm trying." I said.

"I'm trying to find my way, but it's so hard,Daddy. It's so hard.." Tears welled up in my eyes as I hoped my Father could hear me. Everything was quiet. I saw Hunter asleep by a tall tree and walked over to the sleeping pup. I wonder how his ability works. I petted his head as head slept and sighed heavily. Hunter looked up at me with a confused expression. His collar was loose around his neck and his clothes were a bit ripped. "Were you trying to take off your clothes by any chance?" I asked. Hunter whimpered, and I stroked his soft silver hair. "It's okay, you are a dog. It makes sense." I sighed as Hunter rested his head in my lap. I wish everything made sense again.

Sebastian's POV:

Is there a reason why Jae would ask me such a confusing question? At the moment the question didn't make any sense.

'You're faking aren't you?'

Her words echoed in my head and never left my thoughts. Why couldn't I answer straight away? Was I afraid of her reaction? How did I feel? How does she feel? That time Claude touched her made me furious, yet I still don't know what that means. Of course as a butler and loyal servant, I shall protect my Mistress as ordered. Yet when I left her alone with that brother of Daniel's, he tried to make a move on her like any man would. Jae was beautiful, too beautiful. Maybe I don't even have a chance with her anyway. What am I saying?! I don't have a chance with her, and I should know that. First it was Danny that liked her, then Richard, then Daniel. Now it was Anthony, our guest. Of course she'd let him stay, but why get so close to him now? They weren't as close as the day they met, for Anthony had pissed her off. Was there a reason he wanted to stay other than being left behind by his brother? He stayed as our guest; orders by Jae.

And I left them alone.

Why was I so stupid? Jae would have been completely overwhelmed by his presence. If I hadn't walked in on them, who knows what would've happened? Would Jae have stopped him if I didn't come in? My head hurts a lot right now. I'm thinking too hard on it. Maybe I'm just thinking about everything the wrong way.

'You're faking aren't you?'

Her words were still echoing in my head.

'You only care about my soul. You don't love me...do you?'

'I know you're only hungry. So I'll make my soul taste lovely for you when the time comes.'

It's true. I get a strong urge every time I see her, yet I don't get why she was so emotional about the whole thing. Suddenly Mei Rin walked down the hall. "Sebastian, I have a problem!" She called. I sighed waiting for the bad news that was headed my way. "I can't find Madame Maddie! She was just in her room the other day, but now she's completely gone!"

Maddie was missing? How could that be? We were discussing things over with the Sheriff yesterday, yet she would completely disobeyed what I asked: "Stay in the manor at all times. Richard will always be watching you."

Apparently Maddie's as stubborn as her sister. So she was missing? How could she walk out so easily? Hunter should've caught her. That idiot demon hound, he doesn't know anything. At least Pluto would've howled for a warning. "Mei Rin, I need you to do something for me. Keep an eye on Anthony and Jae. I'll be right back." Mei Rin nodded in reply and headed off down the hall.

Interesting. Humans have the most stubborn way of acting. Their curiosity gets the best of them until they understand how dangerous their curiosity can become. When the gazelle drinks from the pond completely careless, Snap! The alligator is fully satisfied with its prey. What was Maddie so eager to leave for? I must hurry.

I felt something rub against my arm, and I opened my eyes. Hunter was there in his demon hound form. "What is it?" I asked. I felt a little hazy from my nap and tried to understand what was happening. "What is it?" I asked again. Hunter nuzzled his nose at my back and pushed me from the ground. "What? What are you doing?" I asked as he nuzzled me towards the manor. If I go back in, I'll be sure to see Sebastian again. What if Anthony is there as well? I refused to go back in and I tried to dodge Hunter's movements. "No! I'm not going back in." I said. Hunter kneeled before me and whimpered. Why does he want me to go in so badly? Then I heard a click come from the trees. Possibly a gun? No, but I'm not so sure. Hunter's ears flicked upwards and he turned around covering me with his huge tail. He howled loudly, and I covered my ears. "What's wrong boy?" I asked. Suddenly I heard footsteps come toward us. "Jae."

I peeked over Hunter's tail and saw Maddie with a gun. Hunter growled at Maddie. "Quiet it's only Maddie, pipe down boy!" I called and Hunter began to whimper. What's wrong with this demon hound? "Jae, come on." She said and pulled me over Hunter's tail. "What? Why?" I asked. Maddie just continued to pull me out of the garden. "We need to chat with Richard." She said. I frowned. I yanked my hand away and was released from her grip. "Why!? For your sake, we should stay far away from that creep!" I yelled. Maddie scowled at me and threw the gun over her shoulder. "Of course I know that. That's why-"

Hunter began to growl at Maddie. "What's wrong?" I asked. Maddie frowned and began to aim her gun in Hunter's direction.

"What are you doing?"

"My business, so know your place!"

"I'm not going to let you shoot Hunter! What's the matter with you?"

Maddie aimed her gun at Hunter's head and I tried to calm her down. "Why are you trying to kill him? You said you loved him the other day. Why would you-"

"Shut up, idiot!" Maddie yelled at me. My heart felt as if it had broken. Maddie had never yelled at me before. "Mad-" before I could call out her name, she cried in pain and fell to the ground. "Oh, it's only Madame Maddie." It was Mei Rin. She knocked her out with a small gun. I was frozen. "I was afraid it was another intruder, yes I was." Mei Run fixed her glasses and quickly confiscated the huge gun from Maddie's hand. "My, what happened?" She asked. I looked at Maddie who lied on the ground, sound asleep. Something was on her neck. A red mark. I stepped closer and admired the mark. It was a red star with a name written on it: Maddie.

"Mei Rin." I called and she looked at me. "Yes Madame?"

"Hand me that towel on your shoulder." I ordered and she handed me the white cloth. I wiped two fingers over the mark and it smeared a little. As I wiped off the mark, Maddie began to tremble. Her hair wasn't black anymore, it was brown. her skin turned from light brown to a pale shade and she wore a pair of glasses. She looked like a whole new person. Then I realized she was.

"This isn't Maddie." I said. Mei Rin gasped. I stood to my feet and looked over at Hunter. That's why he was upset with her, for it wasn't the real Maddie. "Mei Rin, wake her up." I said aiming the gun towards the woman. Mei Rin shook the woman awake, and the woman opened her eyes. As soon as she saw my aim on her, she froze. "No.. don't shoot." She pleaded. "And why the hell not?" I asked truly ticked off. She slowly stood up and her hair fell over her left shoulder. "I was only doing my job. I'm an assassin, and I was hired to kill everyone in this manor from my master." Not a good one, I see.

"For what reason?" I asked holding the gun tightly.

"I am just bound by my orders, I am truly unaware of the reason." She looked down at the ground and sighed. "And I have failed my mission."

I thought for a moment. "Did you meet anyone else in this manor before me?" I asked.

"No. This is my first encounter with one of the owners."

"What is your name?" I asked.

She grabbed the sides of her glasses and slowly pulled them off. Her eyes were red like a demon's. I froze gripping the gun cautiously.

"Linda..." I called.

It was the demon maiden from the Wilde Manor.
