"The sun will come out tomorrow..."
I looked at Emma, who was watching our daughter sing on stage. "Huy, tumutulo na yung uhog mo."
Emma elbowed me on the rib before wiping her nose. "She's so cute! Ang galing galing ng baby ko, o!"
"Siyempre, mana sa daddy."
"Shut up. Lily took after me!"
"Ako ang kamukha! Pati dimple o?" I pointed to my cheek.
Emma pouted. She wouldn't win this argument because Lily, our 3 and a half year old toddler, looked exactly like me. Fair-skinned, strong, high-bridged nose, full, bow shaped lips and the shape of her face, akong ako eh.
The only thing she got from Emma was her lashes — long and thick, and beautifully framed her expressive, big brown eyes. None of Emma's other features were apparent — from her brown hair, almond eyes and full lips, to her round face. Although, even when Lily was a baby, we noticed she had Emma's limbs, hands and feet.
As soon as her performance was done, Lily ran to us. "Did you like my song, Mommy?"
"Yes, baby! Ang galing mo naman!" Emma replied.
"How about Daddy?" Lily asked, turning to me.
"Of course naman, baby ko! I loved it!"
"Yey!" She jumped up and down. "I want to go to the mall."
"Okay, but we won't stay long ha? You have to rest. You're staying at Daddy's house tonight," Emma reminded.
Lily nodded. "Mommy won't sing me to sleep?"
"Not tonight. Daddy's turn tonight, darling," I replied.
Though it wasn't often, Lily sometimes gets confused with our setup but she never threw a tantrum. She only demanded to have us both at bedtime when she wasn't feeling well.
"For my birthday, I want like the baby bunny in my book, Mommy."
"What book, baby?"
"The baby bunny book! Baby bunny has Mommy and Daddy all days and nightimes."
Emma looked at me. The day we dreaded was coming.
How do we tell Lily that we were a special kind of family?
