Theo
Lexi and I worried about our spouses.
Okay hindi pa kami kasal ulit, but I worried about Aya.
"Alam mo, dapat hindi tayo nagaalala eh," Lexi commented. "Diyos naman sila. Pero bakit ganun? Nakakatakot pa din?"
I nodded in understanding. "Hay ang hirap. Ang hirap na wala akong maitulong sa kanya."
"Tulong? Wag kang mamatay. Malaking tulong yun. I can't imagine how Mayari must've felt. Natural ayaw niya maulit yun. Kaya wag na wag kang susugod dun kundi ako mismo papatay sayo," Lexi threatened.
I gave her a brief smile. But before I could say anything, a gust of wind was felt and when we turned, Apolaki and Mayari were in the middle of the vast living room. Both in ancient warrior outfits, meaning very little pieces of cloths covered their most important parts.
Lexi and I had our jaws dropped.
"Diyos ko. Nabuntis yata ulit ako," Lexi said, ogling her husband.
Aki smirked. "Aki mo. Mamaya. Humanda ka."
Mayari rolled her eyes. "Brother, we are still here."
"Do not play innocent with me, Sister. Humans have been reporting unscheduled sightings of the blood moon this month."
"Hush, Brother."
"Gagawin din natin yun mamaya, Aya," I said gulping because I have not gotten over how good Mayari looked. First things first, "Wait. Are you okay? Nasaktan ka ba?"
"No, we are fine," Aki answered for them. "But there was a female who perished and we were too late to save her."
Lexi rushed and soothed her husband. Mayari told me that Apolaki feels the pain of the people he cannot protect and I imagine he is suffering now. From the look Mayari was giving him, I knew my theory was not far off.
"Thank you, Apolaki. Thank you for helping Mayari," I said.
"She did not need me, but I will always do this with her."
"Thank you, Brother."
"So? Are we safe?" Lexi asked.
"For now," both Apolaki and Mayari said.
"Ano ba naman. Bakit hindi nauubos yang mga yan," Lexi complained.
"It is alright, Alexandra. It is no different from humans. There will always be those who are pompoms," Aki soothed.
Lexi frowned. "Anong pompoms?"
"Those who seek attention?"
"Pampam yun kasi."
I turned to Mayari. "Uwi na tayo?"
"Yes, let's go home."
Epilogue
I didn't get the promotion that year. I didn't get it the year after either. But I was no longer in a hurry. I would tell Mayari, "The only reason I still want that is so that I could provide you and our angels a good life here on Earth."
It was something I had not been able to give her in my past life.
The financial benefits would also allow me to travel with them to places where few people went and Lakan and Mayumi could roam around.
Our routine became — I worked from 8-5 (maximum would be 8pm), Mayari, Lakan and Mayumi would stay in the heavens and do what gods and angels do, then head back in to Earth in the evening to be with me.
At first we were careful that the children would not be seen, but eventually we stopped caring. There were whispers that we had strange children but no one dared cross Mayari. For me, wala naman silang pakialam sa amin. Let them talk. Basta no lines are crossed, bahala sila sa buhay nila (Mayari always reprimands me for this. Bakit ko daw ginugulo ang tatay niya)
We would have been happy as we were. But, we continue to have been blessed and Mayari, soon after our wedding, became pregnant with another set of twins. Lakan and Mayumi pleaded that they become guardian angels of their younger siblings and the four of them found themselves involved in quite a few adventures with their demi-god cousins from Aki and Lexi.
Bathala just shook his head and chuckled. "What a beautiful mess the Earth would be with all of you over there."
And Mayari and I? We finally had our happy ever after.
P.S. madalas pa din na may unexplained blood moon kayong makikita. Wag magpanic. May pinapaligaya lang akong diyosa.
P.P.S. Hindi pa din niya ako pinapapasok sa office ng walang ID during those times na substitute guard siya
