Emma

I was alone in bed when I woke up.

Getting up quickly, worried that Lily ran off somewhere, I found that she was with Gavin having breakfast.

Mukhang intense ang usapan nilang mag-Daddy.

"Do you understand what that means?"

Lily nodded. "Yes! Lola Mimi told me."

"So, is it okay if I make ligaw kay Mommy?"

"Do you promise not to make her heart hurt? I will make you stand in the corner if mag-cry si Mommy."

I chuckled... but oh my god, did I hear Gavin correctly?

"I promise to try my best."

"Okay, Daddy!"

Gavin leaned forward and kissed her forehead. "Baby, please understand ha. Mommy could say no, and that would be perfectly okay. You have to understand that if she says no to Daddy, she just wants what's best ha?"

Lily pouted. "But Daddy, not ka yata love ni Mommy?"

I saw Gavin stiffen and I almost stepped out to interrupt them. He asked, "Why do you say that, Lily?"

"Because in the cartoons, mag-heart yung eyes kapag love eh. Si Mommy, circle eyes lang. But sometimes when you kiss her sa face before you uwi, she shouts so lakas and makes a nawiwiwi face."

Nilaglag na naman ako nitong batang 'to.

Lily seemed to be thinking again. "If she says no, you will cry?"

"Yes, and then I'll try again but pwede din she'll say no again."

It visibly saddened my daughter. "If Mommy says no, we won't be a real family?"

My heart broke.

"Hey, no. Not like that," Gavin took her and hugged our little girl. "Even if Mommy and Daddy don't get married and we're different from others, we still ARE a real family. And we love you very much. That's never going to change."

Lily hugged Gavin. "I love you, Daddy. I love Mommy, too."

"Ehem," I cleared my throat and finally made my presence known. "Good morning, my loves."

"Mommy!!! Daddy made itlogs!"

"What?!" I giggled.

Lily pointed to the table and sure enough Gavin cooked eggs — boiled, scrambled and sunny side up.

"I wasn't sure what you were in the mood for," he said, sheepishly. Putting Lily back in her seat, He held out a seat for me.

On my place, there was a rose and a note from him and Lily. Since Lily was still learning to write, hers had a giant heart and her name as "Liy". Gavin's note read: Good morning, sunshine! Can I take you out on a date today?

I looked at Gavin. "With Lily or just us?"

"The two of us lang sana?"

I agreed. "I'd love that. But, umm, Gavin?"

"Yes, Em?"

"I ... I like 'sweetheart' better than 'sunshine'."

He beamed at me. "Okay. Okay."

"And you haven't given me my morning kiss yet."

He leaned over and placed a tender kiss on my nose then my cheek. He was about to say something when —

"AHHHHHLILLILILIWOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHLALALALALALWOYWOYWOYWOY."

"Lily! What's going on?!" We panicked at the sounds she was making, while covering her eyes and shaking her head.

Stopping, her wide eyes trained on us, she explained, "Lola Mimi said to cover my eyes and be noisy when magkiss si Mommy and Daddy and Lily cannot hide."

Gavin laughed.

"Mommy?"

"Yes, baby?"

"Don't kiss na. I'm dizzy na eh."
