Maya's POV

I couldn't help but blink when my friend, Margot (who incidentally is the most popular girl in the university) shoved a sort of paper in my face.

Looking at it, I realized it's a picture of a boy.

"He looks like..." I said dumbly.

"A weirdo, right? He was such a lola's boy." Margot said, looking exasperated and a bit disgusted.

"Right." I just say. That was what you do with Margot if you're smart; never contradict her. I don't really know where the conversation was going but I waited.

"He's my friend, Jeboy Malabaño. Stinks right? He's turning 22 in a few days."

"Huh?" I couldn't help but say. "But he looks like a child!" I said, pointing at the picture.

"Of course, dummy. That was his picture ten years ago. He's my childhood friend and we haven't met since this picture. Now we have a situation. He's going to Manila tomorrow and he wants to meet with me." Margot said in one breath.

"Well, what's the problem?" I asked.

"The problem is, I don't want to meet with him." She said nonchalantly. "So you'll go and meet him as me."

My eyes widen at this. "Me??? Pretend to be you?!" I asked, frantically. I am really not very good with socializing, and pretending to be Margot...

"He wouldn't know the difference. He last saw me when I was like, ten. Just accompany him around Manila. It'll be fine." She said with finality in her tone.

I didn't dare say 'but.'

I was feeling very awkward, standing in front of FY University, holding a magazine. Apparently, Margot's childhood friend would be going to this university. This Jeboy had texted me (Margot had cunningly given him my cellphone number when they chatted on Facegram) saying he wanted to meet up here and for both of us to bring Garage magazine so we could spot each other quickly.

I checked my watch and felt very nervous once more. It was already the meet up time. I looked around, not really knowing what to expect. I saw his picture but that was from ages ago, and he was covered in mud there.

And then I spotted it; the Garage magazine. I braced myself and put on my most winning smile, wishing he didn't remember Margot that much. I think my jaw dropped when I zoomed in to his face, though.

His face was far from his picture from ten years ago. HOW THE HECK CAN PUBERTY DO THAT?? I mean, he looks like someone who should be on the cover of Garage.

"Margot!" He called as he ran to me.

"J-Jebs." I called back awkwardly. Here is a complete stranger and I'm calling him by his nickname.

He stopped right in front of me and his smile faded. He looked at me for a long while, and inside I scared he had found out.

But the moment passed and his smile returned.

"Wow, I didn't know puberty can do that!" he said, in a teasing tone.

I think I blushed, but I just gave him a laugh.

"Well, you changed a lot as well." I said, thinking about his photo. Now, he's tall with a small and more angular face, looking very much like a model.

He scratched his head, seemingly flattered.  "It's been a while, huh"

He smiled once more, and looked me in the eye. I panicked inside and I looked away at once.
