It was a cold night in Manila.
But Nadine didn't really mind because now she has an excuse to wear her very cute but very thick jacket.
It was her favorite, but she hadn't worn it much because it was too warm to wear. But now she can indulge herself.
She didn't like the jacket only because it was cute. It was also because it was a gift from her not-so-much-just-a-friend, James.
Nadine sat on the bench, looking at all the Christmas lights.
She and James met when they were still fifteen, in a reality show. It had been so long ago, but it felt for Nadine as if it were only yesterday.
They've been friends ever since.
But after her relationship with her then non-showbiz boyfriend did they become real close.
James has always been there for Nadine. He was her confidante, her crying shoulder, her best friend, her partner in crime.
When she was heartbroken, James was there to help her pick up the pieces.
After that, they've been inseparable.
Of course, not literally; as actors, they don't really have much time to hang out and stuff. But they would text and call each other whenever they can.
And then, Nadine didn't know when it began, but they started acting like a couple.
Nothing was said. Nadine just felt that there was something that changed.
During her first ever on-screen kiss in a serye, she was surprised to find James in her tent, pacing.
She laughed at his antics that time and then hugged him from the back.
He stopped his tracks and just hugged her, too.
After that year, James got a role in a movie that eventually made him big.
Nadine remembered how happy James was then when he first knew he got the role. He called Nadine right after finalizing the contract.
Nadine was pulled back to the present when something wet touched her legs.
She looked down, "Oh, I'm sorry Clarky for getting lost in my thoughts." She cooed at the five years old Maltese.
He, too, was a gift from James on her 18th birthday.
She patted Clarky's head.
"Your daddy's late, isn't he?" Nadine said to the dog.
Clarky became their 'baby' after her and James's silly fight.
One night after filming for a movie, Nadine forgot to feed Clarky when she got home. She was so tired she fell asleep without even changing. The next day, James visited her and got angry when he saw Clarky eating like there's no tomorrow.
They argued and then James said, "I know you're busy, but you're being an irresponsible mom!"
He said that so seriously Nadine couldn't help but laughed.
"Okay, I'm sorry Dad. Mom won't forget to feed Clarky again." Was her reply and they ended up laughing the whole morning.
They've been through so many things already. The years passed by so fast. She hoped she could also spend the oncoming years with James, as well.
James has always been there for her. She wanted to be there for him, too; especially now that he has been facing some problems with his career.
Nadine and Clarky took a walk and found themselves in front of a tall building.
That's when Clarky started barking, looking at the sky.
Nadine looked up, too.
And she gasped at what she saw.
James was at the highest balcony, seemingly ready to jump.
"No!!!!" She cried.
And all the people around her looked up, too.
James looked at her and smiled sadly.
Nadine couldn't understand. What was he doing?!
"James!!! No!!! Don't!!!!" Nadine was already crying, panicking. She couldn't even think straight. The crowd was in tumult but Nadine didn't notice. She only has eyes for James.
And then, he jumped.
Nadine screamed.
It was as if she was seeing it in slow motion.
James is falling, he's falling...
His face is blank, he's looking at her.
She couldn't understand why this was happening.
She wanted to look away, but she can't. She can't move.
And then she saw James smiled his mischievous smile.
He pulled something from his back and something like cloth erupted.
It was a parachute.
And on it were the words, 'Will you marry me?'
Nadine's eyes welled up again. Her tears fell out of relief and happiness.
James landed in front of her and she hugged him.
She cried harder in her arms.
"I hate you! Don't scare me like that!!"
"Sorry, I want it to be unforgettable."
She laughed with tears freely falling.
James laughed as well, but looked worried now. She still can't stop crying.
"Hey, hey. I'm here. I'm okay. I'm not going anywhere. Don't cry, Naddie."
Nadine hit him hard over his chest.
"You always make me laugh while crying!" She said, still holding on to him.
James grinned sheepishly and just hugged her.
"Would you do it forever?" She whispered.
James pulled away to looked at her, smiling from ear to ear.
"So is that a yes?" He asked, wiping her tears away.
Nadine just nodded. She still couldn't stop crying.
Instead of replying, James kissed her.
It was their first kiss. Nothing was ever clear to them. Only their feelings...
The crowd around them erupted with cheers. But they didn't notice.
