The pale-skinned teen looked back and forth between the two sky people. She saw something that reflected in each of their eyes—relief, amongst many other things. Before anyone could say anything or make another move, someone followed Hazel into the chamber.
"What did I do this time?"
Maya glared at her cousin for interrupting what was supposed to be a sentimental and happy moment of being reunited for the two outsiders. It didn't seem as if Theo cared much, because he ignored the teenager's sharp look and asked, "Who are you?"
Finally Hazel spoke up, murmuring softly, "Bell."
Their eyes locked and just as they started to move towards each other, the dirty blonde was pulled into the chef's side. "Who is he, babe?"
While Hazel squirmed uncomfortably, trying to escape the male's grasp, Bellamy took it upon himself to introduce and ask, "I'm Bellamy. Who are you?" He eyed the arm wrapped around the dirty blonde's waist and for a moment, he saw red. The brunette noticed how annoyed the medic looked and wanted to step in, which he planned on doing immediately.
"Theo, Hazel's boyfriend."
"Are you sure about that?" countered Bellamy.
Theo opened his mouth to say something but the dirty blonde beat him to it, escaping his arms at the same time as she corrected, "Ex-boyfriend, if you can even call him that."
The chef stared at Hazel in disbelief, wondering what he had done to be demoted to anything less than her significant other. She had no reason to have broken things off, especially since she had been in a medically induced coma for the past few days. He turned to the dirty blonde and asked, "Since when? And what about the baby—"
"There never was a baby, asshole. But you knew that already, didn't you?"
Maya gasped, raising her hand to try to cover the sound her throat made. She blushed sheepishly as everyone turned to her. It seemed as if the recently broken-up couple had forgotten there were others in the room.
It only took another few moments to pass before Theo gripped the medic's wrist tightly and pulled her into him, alarming the others. As he started to yell at her and leave bruises on her arms, Hazel was reminded of her old situation on the Ark. Her eyes began to water as flashbacks of Shumway abusing her and calling her names flooded her mind. "No, no, please don't. Please stop!" The dirty blonde was so unfocused on the present that she hadn't realized that she had been let go. Hazel's captor was shoved away from her as Bellamy came to her rescue.
The two females barely had time to react when Bellamy sent the chef's form into the shoot and pulled the lever. The only thing remaining of Theo was his scream echoing throughout the shoot before there was a loud thud.
"Bell. . ." the dirty blonde's throat was dry as she tried to make sense of what had just happened. The ex-janitor was by her side immediately and had her in his arms a second later. Hazel locked her arms around his neck and cried into his bare chest. Bellamy buried his own head into the female's long, soft hair and pressed his lips firmly against her shoulder.
The pair remained like that for what seemed like hours, but in reality, was only a few seconds. It wasn't until they heard sniffling did they finally pull apart. It suddenly dawned on Hazel that her best friend had just lost her cousin. The fact that there were many caged grounders in the background also loomed over her head.
"Maya, I'm so sorry. . ."
But the pale-skinned teen shook her head. "No, it's not your fault. He. . . he did this to himself."
Even though Maya wouldn't accept the apology, she still allowed the dirty blonde to wrap her arms around her. When they pulled apart, it was time to get back to business.
