The journey to Mount Weather was an unfamiliar one to Hazel, seeing as she could hardly remember leaving it. It had only been three months, but the fortress held such strong memories for her that it blocked her ability to remember anything about it. She figured that was a good thing, seeing as some of the memories were horrible and the others were lies.
When they had walked through the door at the top of the mountain that was once filled with sky people and grounders alike who were ready to open it, Hazel froze up. She stared at the entrance, as if she were waiting for someone to walk out. Octavia walked passed her, giving the girl a concerned look as she made her way inside.
"C'mon, Hazel. We've got lives to save," the warrior-like teenager called over her shoulder before disappearing inside.
The dirty blonde sighed, dropping her head as she followed the others inside. She glanced back and saw Faye, the female grounder, looking just as unsure as she did. Hazel offered a small smile full of compassion and understanding before taking a step forwards.
It had to be hard, to be willing to send your father into the place that had tortured and killed many of their people until only months ago. Faye clearly felt uncomfortable and hated the entire idea, but she loved her father. She wanted him to survive.
Giving in, the grounder followed the dirty blonde medic inside. They were as tense as could be, but at least they weren't as bad as Jasper. The skinny male was standing inside, staring off into space as the memories hit him. Unlike Hazel, he could remember because he had no distractions. And it was those memories that haunted him.
Jasper was jealous of his friend as she took off towards the hospital wing, not letting the past affect her. The only reason she was able to momentarily forget everything that had happened inside the mountain was because she had something to distract her. Nyko's wound was her saving grace, but as soon as he was well, Hazel was sure everything would come flowing back.
But, for the time being, she was going to focus on her medical duties.
As the others ran to the medical clinic, Octavia hesitated. She glanced back at Jasper as the dirty blonde and grounder woman passed her. The male was stuck, battling his thoughts and inner demons. He did not know what his place was inside the mountain, for he didn't have one. Why he had been brought along, no one knew. Thinking about it now, they realized it definitely wasn't their best idea.
"Don't do anything stupid," Octavia ordered, deciding she needed to be there for her boyfriend as his friend underwent surgery. Hopefully Jasper was capable of keeping himself together, even though no one was sure he could.
"You mean like coming back here?" He asked quietly, his question directed at no one in particular seeing as he had been left alone.
As Jasper was left to be attacked by his own mind, the others focused on saving Trikru's healer. They had made it the medical facility and were prepping the grounder for an emergency transfusion. Abby was frozen as she took in the elaborate and advanced machinery all throughout the wing. She couldn't help but feel giddy at the thought of being able to use all of the new equipment, but was quickly put down as she realized that she couldn't colonize the mountain.
Hazel went straight to the harvest chamber, where the remaining grounder blood was stored. She was joined by Jackson and they began to search through the piles of bagged blood. "RH Null, RH Null. . . where are you?"
Their search took only about two minutes, but it had felt like forever before Jackson called out, "Got it!"
He grabbed a few bags before exiting the chamber, eager to escape the dreary room as quickly as possible. Hazel, however, remained a moment longer and took it all in. She wondered when exactly the Mountain-men had begun to abduct grounders and use them for their blood.
