Chapter 16

Connor was wheeled into the ED, followed by Laura. Will trailed in slowly behind, rubbing his head and stumbling over his own feet. Ava and Natalie were still standing outside glaring after them. As soon as Will and Connor were out of site Ava relaxed and let out an exasperated sigh. Nat put her hand on Ava's back.

N: Hey, Connor is okay. He is an idiot but he's okay.

A: I know. I'm fine really.

She took a deep breath in and walked inside. Natalie followed shortly after. Connor was being examined by Dr. Abrams and Will has hunched over in the chair beside him with a banana bag IV. April walked in and burst out laughing...

A: What and the heck happened to you two?

Will gave her a very un-amused scowl and then vomited all over the floor. Nat shook her head slightly and then stormed off. Ava's face had now gone from an enraged frown, to a sad, gaze and she slowly walked off to the coffee cart outside the hospital. She sat outside and drank her hot chocolate in the cold winter air and thought a lot about the situation she had gotten herself into... Inside, Connor was beginning to feel better and Will had perked up a bit.

W: I know we say this every time but I am NEVER drinking again!

C: Yeah right, I wonder how long that will last.

W: How long do you think we are going to be paying for this slip up?

C: Uh I would probably say for the rest of our lives... Women don't forget things very easily.

W: Don't I know it.

C: We should try sleep for a bit before we have to deal with the consequences of all this.

W: Good idea. 

They both fell asleep straight away. 4 hours later Connor woke up and Ethan was standing at the end of his bed.

C: What are you doing here?

E: Its 6.30am, shift starts for me soon. I brought you both an espresso. You really need to get your shit together dude. Ava is very upset.

C: Upset? I thought she was just mad.

E: Wow. I have to go get changed. Here.

He handed Connor one of the cups and then walked over to Will who was still asleep in the armchair. He kicked he chair and Will jumped up.

W: What the hell Ethan! You scared the life out of me.

E: Yeah like you guys did to us all last night.

He handed Will the other espresso and then left, muttering to himself under his breath. Connor stood up and started to put his clothes back on.

C: We need to go talk to them buddy.

W: I know.

Will put his jacket on and straightened himself out as best he could. They walked out of the treatment room and Connor headed up to the locker room where he thought Ava might be hiding. This was usually where she went when she was upset. He walked in and there she was, sitting in the corner by her locker.

C: Ava?

A: Glad to see you are alive.

C: Please let me explain.

A: Please. Fire Away.

C: So it started out as just Will, Noah, Ethan and myself and then suddenly everyone from the district and firehouse 51 showed up. Word had spread through the grapevine that Will was having a sort-of stag night. Will told Jay, who invited his intelligence team and then Antonio told Gabby who told Casey and then he brought the rest of 51. I didn't plan for it to happen it was a total surprise to me too. Anyway, after we started in on the shots it all went downhill from there. I am not making any excuses for that. But the thing with Laura. I was not with her. She was drinking alone and somebody spiked her drink and so she fell of her bar stool. Me and Will ran over to help but I passed out. It was just an unfortunate situation.

A: Mm hmm and what about what Sharon said. The driving!? What the hell were you thinking!?

C: I wouldn't have really gone through with it.

A: How am I supposed to believe you Connor?

C: Ava you know me...

A: Do I? Because the Connor I know doesn't get wasted and end up in the damn emergency department! The Connor I know doesn't hangout with other girls he has kissed in bars while his pregnant girlfriend is off with her friends.

C: We weren't hanging out! She was just there, it was a complete coincidence!

A: Oh right. Maybe you didn't know she was going to be there but I can't say the same for her.

C: Ava, what are you saying? This isn't like you.

A: Yeah well I am having a bit of a hard time right now if you haven't noticed!

Ava had tears welling up in the corner of her eyes and Connor could tell she was getting really worked up.

C: Listen babe, I have no interest in Laura at all. If I did I would have stayed with her at Mayo, but I didn't! I came back here for you and YOU are all I want. You and this baby. I am sorry I was such a clueless idiot but I had no idea felt this way.

A: I was just scared, for a moment I thought I would have to do this by myself.

C: No. Never.

Connor held his arms out and she walked over to him, sniffling a little bit. He wrapped his arms around her and she held tightly onto his shirt. Connor kissed the top of her head and slowly rubbed her back.

C: I'm okay.

A: Promise me, you'll never leave me alone...

C: I promise. And I am sorry.

A: I love you, ya know.

C: I do. And I love you too.

Ava looked up at him with tears rolling down her cheeks. He kissed her playfully on her nose and was just leaning in to give her a proper kiss when Laura burst in...
