Chapter 13

*** The next day***

Connor and Ava had spent the night at his apartment after the hectic day at the hospital. They both had the next 24 hours off. Connor and Ava had both thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to have a long sleep in and get to know each other a bit more, but Connor woke up at 5.30am on the dot and lay there unable to fall back to sleep. He could hear Ava sleeping peacefully next to him and decided to roll over so he could look at her. As soon as he moved her eyes shot open and she also turned to look at him.

C: Good Morning.

A: Morning.

C: Its so ironic isn't it. We get excited for a lie in and our body clock still wake us up at this ungodly hour, expecting that we will need to be up for work.

Ava giggled a little and said "Yeah, but its okay because we can use this time to talk and have something to eat. Like pancakes!"

C: You want me to make you some pancakes?

A: Its okay I can do it. I don't expect you to wait on me.

Connor jumped up and out of bed before Ava even had the chance to move.

C: It would be my absolute honor to wait on your every whim. No I will do it, you stay here.

And with that he scurried off into the kitchen before she could even say anything. Ava chuckled to herself and then lay back down before smiling sweetly up at the ceiling as she thought about what an amazing father Connor was gonna be. She could just imagine the three of them sitting at the breakfast table together on Sunday mornings with a big stack of his home made pancakes, listening to music and then spending the evenings at the park as the sun went down. She could hear loud banging and clattering coming from the kitchen and so decided to get up and go see what on earth Connor was doing.

A: Rhodes what in the name of Lucifer are you doing in here. They can probably here you in China! Are you actually trying to conjure up a marching band or something?

Connor laughed. "Well excuse me your highness, I am only trying to make a delicious breakfast for you and our little jelly bean."

A: Never mind the pancakes, I want jellybeans now! Besides you are going to rupture my ear drums if you carry on.

C: Okay so you want me to go out now?

A: No I want us to go out now. I don't wanna sit here alone like a crippled pregnant woman.

C: But you are a preg....

A: Don't even finish that sentence. Lets go get ready.

C: What are you going to wear?

A: I will wear my pants from yesterday and one of your shirts. At the rate I am growing they will be about the right size. She sighed.

C: Oh no. Don't start that. You look gorgeous. Do you think you might want to maybe bring some of your stuff here? That is if you would want to stay with me...?

A: I hardly have anything. After I moved here from Groote Schuur I kind of just got stuck straight into work. I never bought much.

C: Oh I see, well I have an idea...

A: Mmm whats that?

C: Maybe we should both move out of our apartments and find a place together.... Now I don't mean to push you but if you wanted to I think it would be a good idea.

Ava was just standing there staring at him. Although she didn't look freaked out, like when he told her he loved her.  She just had a blank look on her face and had her arms crossed across her chest.

C: Ava?

A: Hmm what?

C: Did you hear what I just said?

A: Yeah. I wondered when you were finally going to ask. I don't want to live alone while I am pregnant.

C: Wait...is that a yes? Just like that? No drama or hesitation?

A: Well why would there be? We are with each other 90% of the time at work anyway. I am having your baby and you did tell me you love me so I am assuming this is the next natural step right?

C: Yes of course. And yes I do love you.

A: I know, I love you too.

Connor stopped and walked back over to her and kissed her. She looked up at him with a tiny smile on her face and then rested her head on his chest. He looked lovingly down at her and said "This is gonna be one epic adventure my love".
