Hello kiddos, just a heads up, Yes, Ava does breastfeed her baby in this book. I know this is a highly controversial topic but if you have an issue with it kindly don't read x. It is what I believe she would do, as a mother and of course as a doctor. I am not having a dig at anyone so please don't have a go at me. This is just what I believe and you have every right to your own opinions too, just please don't shit all over anyone else's . I do not get to say what Ava Bekker would or would not do, she is not my character this is just what I believe. It does however, deeply sadden me that I even have to clarify this but that's just what this world has come to. Anyway enjoy :-)
***2 Days Later***
It was a quiet Wednesday morning on the Maternity ward and baby Sophia had been up since 5am. Ava was recovering well and Connor had barely left her side except to get Ava food that wasn't the swill the hospital served. Ava was having a shower when Sophia started to fuss. Connor walked over to the crib she was laying in and picked her up, she immediately settled.
C: So you just wanna be cuddled? I think I can accommodate that. I know I'm not your mommy but I will do for now right?
Ava walked in and saw Connor gently rocking Sophia back and forth. She quietly grabbed her phone from the bathroom sink and snatched a few pictures before Connor could notice. She walked over to where they were standing and gently stroked her daughters hair and then lifted her hand up to Connors cheek. He gave her a warm smile and then looked back down at Sophia. She was fast asleep again.
C: I am scared if I put her down she will wake up.
A: Then don't put her down.
C: But I need to finish packing our stuff.
A: No I can do it.
C: Over my dead body.
A: Con, I am not pregnant anymore. I will be fine.
C: AH AH AH What did we agree on just yesterday?
A: I had to promise to do nothing for 5 days and you promised you would back of being SO OVERPROTECTIVE.
C: Shhhhh you almost woke her. And it was a week.
A: 6 days.
C: A WEEK. I am not budging on this. Your body has been through a lot. Just take the deal. You get a whole week of me waiting on your hand and foot.
A: Fine, now give me my baby she said as she got back into bed.
Connor handed Sophia to Ava and carried on putting the clothes in the suitcase. Connors phone rang.
C: Hello?
"Hello Connor. Its Laura."
C: Uh hi. Everything okay? Why you calling?
L: I was just ringing to say congratulations to you and Ava.
C: Oh yeah thank you. You can speak to her if you wa....
L: Oh no that's okay.
C: Don't take this the wrong way but uhh how did you get this number?
L: Oh I asked around. You are very popular apparently.
C: Right I see. Anyway uhh thanks for calling and I guess I'll see ya later.
Connor hung up the phone and quickly tucked it into his back pocket. He went straight back to putting the clothes away, avoiding eye contact with Ava. A few minutes she had finally had enough.
A: Alright I'm done waiting for you to crack. What the hell was that? I have never seen a person look so guilty in my life. Don't even think about lying to me. We are beyond all that bullshit now.
Connor cleared his throat, stood up straight and tugged his shirt down.
A: Out with it Rhodes.
C: That was uhh Laura. She was calling to say congratulations to us.
A: To us orrrr you?
C: Both of us Ava.
A: Mmhmm.
C: This can't seriously bother you!
A: Well it does.
C: Why?
A: Oh hmm lets see. Reason number 1) You very nearly went home with her in Minnesota. If Dr. Latham hadn't of called you that night I am 100% sure you would have. Reason number 2) She transferred here to be 'friends' with you. Reason number 3) She has clearly got a thing for you. She bloody well kissed you Connor! Reason number 4) She always manages to find a reason to call or talk or work with you. Reason number 5) She is practically stalking you. How the hell did she get your number?
Connor was standing there with a completely blank face. He hadn't moved since Ava first started talking.
A: Connor don't play this game with me.
C: I'm not playing any games. I just want to know how you know that Dr. Latham called me. Because I don't remember saying anything about that.
A: Oh. I... He...
C: Oh I get it now. Well done. Congratulations you got me.
A: Connor!
Connor was now frantically pacing the room, it was easy to see he was angry. After a moment he grabbed his jacket and keys and stormed out before Ava could even stand up. She put Sophia down in the crib and ran out the room into the hospital corridor, but Connor was already gone. Nurse Jackie ran over to Ava who was breathing heavily and beginning to slowly slump lower and lower. She lead her back into the room and sat her down on the edge of the bed. Sophia was crying loudly now after being put back in her crib and Ava was sitting in a silent trance. Nurse Jackie picked up Sophia and bounced her gently up and down while Ava was trying to gather herself together. After a minute she sat up and wiped the tear off her cheek.
A: I'm okay. Thanks Jackie. I think shes due for a feed now anyway.
Ava held her arms out and Jackie placed Sophia in them.
J: You sure you're okay?
A: I'll be fine.
J: Okay then. I'm gonna go. Give you and your daughter some alone time.
A: Alright. Thank You. Again.
J: Not a problem.
Jackie walked out and Ava nursed baby Sophia. While she was feeding her eyes were locked straight on Ava.
A: Wow, you definitely have your daddies eyes my sweet girl. Beautiful and Blue. I hope I get to see those eyes again real soon, although I feel like I may have just really messed this up for us.
