Chapter 41

Normans pov

2 hours. 2 agonizing hours. That's how long I have been sitting in the waiting room of the hospital with Lauren. Kayla had been takin back into emergency surgery. My mind wondered millions of places. I may never get to speak to her again, I may not ever be a father again and thinking about it, I really wanted to be. I couldn't sit still. I was either pacing or sitting down shaking my knee uncontrollably. Lauren was on the phone as I was sitting biting my nail nervously. She hung up with whoever she was talking to and sat down next to me. It was awkward as we both didn't say anything. She finally sighed,

"that was Steven. Everyone's real worried about her and are on their way"

i just nodded and she sighed again,"her family know?"

I shook my head and hesitantly pulled out my phone,"no better time than now"

"you want me to do it?" She asked.

"nah they should hear it from me" I said standing up and dialing her moms phone.

n:hello?

m:hey mrs. Rolfes it's norman

n: hi sweety! How are you!

m:(my voice started to crack) well to be honest mam not too well.

n:what's wrong?

m: ( I remained silent and then sighed) there's been an accident

n:(silence) what kind of accident?

m:(I started to whimper)

n:norman.....where's kayla?

m: she got into a car accident..she's in surgery now

n: she what?! Is she ok?! What happened!

m: I don't know, we found her at the bottom of a cliff where her car flipped.

n:oh my gosh.oh my gosh(she started whimpering) I'm getting on a flight right now

m:alright mam, call me when you get here. I'll keep you informed

n:thank you so much norman(she hung up)

i sighed and wiped a few tears that spilt on my cheeks. I walked back over to Lauren who stood when she saw me.

"they're on their way" I said.

she nodded and then we heard,"norman!"

we both turned and saw Robert followed by the whole cast behind him. When they reached us the questions started pouring.

"what the hell happened?" Rooker asked.

"she was in an accident" Lauren said.

i just stood there focused on the floor. I couldn't look anyone in the eye. I knew this was my fault.

"have you heard anything?" Andy asked.

"no not yet, it's been about two hours" Lauren answered.

"will she be alright?" Chandler urged.

i looked down and made eye contact with chandler. His cheeks were puffy and his eyes were red like he had been crying. I sighed and I felt Lauren's eyes on me. She turned back to the group and said,

"we hope so"

the questions finally stopped as they each took a seat in the waiting room. I remained standing looking down at the floor. Another hour past as I heard my name yelled again,

"reedus!"

i looked quickly to see to see sean running down the hallway as fast as he could. I met him about halfway. He seemed out of breath as he asked,

"how is she?"

I just starred at him and nodded with my head to follow me. He nodded and I walked him outside. we both leaned against the building and he asked,

"What's going on?"

"she's been in surgery for about 3 hours now" I grunted.

he sighed,"and ya haven't heard anything?"

i shook my my head and avoided eye contact.

"Hey everything is gonna be fine" he tried to reassure me.

suddenly all the emotion i was bottling up exploded inside me. I glared at sean,

"how the hell is everything gonna be fine! This is all my fault! If I wouldn't have let her leave after she told me she was pregnant she wouldn't have crashed!"

"norm..." He started to say but I cut him off,

"no! Don't try and make me feel better! Here I am standing out here as my girlfriend and my unborn child are both potentially dead and it's all because of me! You know how I found her sean!? The car was flipped at the bottom of a cliff! There was so much blood! She was unconscious and barely even had a pulse! I've lost her and the baby cause I'm a stupid fucking idiot!" I yelled and finally broke down into tears.

my legs gave out and sean caught me,"hey you have to calm down."

"calm down?! I can't fucking calm down sean!" I yelled.

"look I understand, but you have to be strong! C'mon man I know you're stronger than this and we both know she wouldn't want you doing this to yourself." He said.

"but.." I started to say but he cut me off,

"no buts man now come on we need to get back inside" he said helping me up.

i nodded and we walked back inside and sat next to everyone. About a half hour later my head shot up as I heard a doctor come out and yell,

"kayla rolfes?"

all of us immediately shot up and surrounded the doctor. His eyes widened at the amount of us that now stood infront of him. Flanery had his hand on my shoulder as I said,

"Yea? Is she ok?"

"Well she suffered a concussion and had a bunch of internal bleeding. She had a few broken ribs, but other than that she's fine." He said.

Multiple people sighed with relief and I saw Lauren and Emily hug tightly. Sean squeezed my shoulder and I smiled at him. We all were thinking everything was ok, but then the doctor said,

"but there is something else."

we immediately stopped celebrating and looked nervously at the doctor. He sighed when he saw our expressions,

"she's in a coma."

my heart pounded and I heard multiple gasps. It was like my whole world just crashed down. I felt numb. I heard chandler choke back on his tears and Andrew grabbed him hugging him tight. Everyone's eyes had glossed over. The doctor looked apologetically at everyone and then back to me,

"you her husband?"

"boyfriend" I choked out.

"May I talk with you privately?" He asked.

I hesitantly nodded and the group sadly walked back to their seats comforting each other. The doctor pulled me aside,

"are you aware that she's expecting?"

I nodded,"the baby....is it?"

"No..everything is fine which is a miracle" he said.

that comforted me a little until he said,"but with her being in a coma she isn't feeding herself and getting the nourishment her or the child will need."

"What does that mean?" I asked hesitantly dreading the answer.

he sighed,"if she doesn't wake up by the end of the week, she will lose the baby..I'm sorry"
