He hadn't called her. Why hadn't he called her?
She checked her phone again, hoping she'd just misread it. Nope, still no call. Not even a text. Matt was going to be furious. She kicked off her shoes and laid her travel case (which was actually an entire suitcase; there was no such thing as traveling light with Amanda) at the foot of her bed. She unbuttoned her white blouse and hung it on a hanger in the closet, followed by her skin-tight jeans. She put her shoes back on their rack and jumped into bed, knowing she'd have to call Matt soon.
She stared at her phone. Her flight had landed over four hours ago. It was 6 in the evening the night after she'd offered Hunter what he should have accepted, and still he hadn't called.
"I seriously don't know what's wrong with you, Hunter." Any guy would be lucky to take what she'd been offering.
As if to prove her point, Matt suddenly stood in her doorway. He looked up her up and down, then crawled into the bed next to her, his hand on the flat plane of her stomach.
"Did you do it?" he asked, not even bothering to look up from where he was kissing her neck.
"No, baby. Hunter's too pure for that. He said he wasn't ready." She rolled her eyes. "Don't worry, though, I'll get it done. It may take longer than I want it to, but it will happen. I have no doubt."
Yeah, just as soon as he runs back to me like a lost puppy again.
Why haven't you called yet?!
"We don't have forever, Mandy. Get it done, one way or another."
"I will, Matt. Don't worry about it." He kissed her, and Amanda threw herself into it, thinking how much better off she'd be as soon as she could toss Hunter out onto the street, hopefully broke and broken hearted from their efforts.
What a sweet day that would be.

He hadn't called her. Why hadn't he called her?
Hunter, you said you'd call her today. Why didn't you call her?
He looked over at Beth, who was doodling in a notebook and humming along to her iPod in the corner. He laughed, causing her to look up. He plugged his ears and faked a heart attack, making fun of her for her awful voice.
Bethany smiled, watching Hunter make fun of her. She couldn't help herself. She knew she wasn't a good singer, so it didn't hurt her feelings. In fact, she wasn't sure that anything could hurt her feelings when he was looking at her like that. Had he looked at her like that before? She couldn't be sure. To get his twinkling eyes off her face, she threw a pillow at him.
"Ouch! Hey!" he complained, throwing the pillow back at her. She laughed and dodged it.
"That's what you get for making fun of my voice!" She laughed, feeling a strange sense of giddiness in her chest.
Stop it, Beth. You're getting in too deep here.
How can I help it? He's just so darn adorable.
No, Beth.
"What are you drawing?" he asked her, putting his guitar away and sitting next to her, peering over her shoulder.
She made a half-hearted attempt to cover it up, but he grabbed her hand and forced her to show him. He was astonished. She was drawing...t-shirt designs? And they were really, really good.
