"Whoa," Hunter said, staring up at the massive rock wall as Beth pulled on his hand, dragging him through the front door. She handed the man behind the counter a twenty dollar bill, and he pointed them towards a younger looking guy standing by the rock wall with a couple of harnesses in his hands. 

"This is going to be so much fun, Hunter. We used to do this all the time with my Aunt and Uncle. If you can make it to the top, there's a red button and if you push it, they give you a fist full of suckers." Bethany gushed, bouncing over to the boy with the harnesses and greeting him gregariously. 

Hunter laughed. This was definitely not something he'd expected Bethany to enjoy doing. Still, he could see the excitement that had been missing from her expression for weeks bubbling over in her smile and her eyes. He was up for anything that could put that look on her face. 

As the boy, whose name tag read "Ryan", helped them into their harnesses, Hunter and Bethany talked to him and made jokes at each other, teasing and flirting easily like always. 

Finally, they were both hooked up, and they stopped chatting for a minute to listen to the boy give them instructions in case of an emergency. When he had finished his spiel, Hunter and Bethany walked towards the wall, deciding to go for the medium difficulty level. 

"I'll race ya," Bethany said, placing her hands on the pegs and smirking at him. You're going to lose, Hunter.

"I think the odds are slightly in your favor," he said, looking up at the intimidating size of the wall and putting his hands on similar pegs a few inches away from hers. 

"Oh, come on. You have the upper-body strength of an orangutan. You can do this." 

"Okay, fine. You're on. The first one to the top gets to keep all of the suckers."

"Deal," she said, still smiling cockily. She was so going to win. They shook hands, closing the deal.

"On your mark," she said, holding on to the pegs again.

"Get set," Hunter offered, readying himself as well.

"Go!" Ryan said, shooing them up the side from where he stood. They both laughed, but quickly started their ascent. 

Bethany took the lead immediately, laughing as she saw Hunter struggle with the first few steps. 

"Come on, slow poke!" She teased, stopping to look down at him for a minute.

He laughed, but before she had the chance to rub it in his face further, he was speeding towards her position. From there it was an all out race. Bethany had her experience to guide her to the right pegs, and she moved swiftly up the side, but Hunter had his strength, and he seemed to be catching on exceptionally quickly, so he was neck and neck with her the whole way up. 

Just before they'd reached the top, Bethany's shoe got stuck in one of the pockets, and she couldn't get it out. 

"Hunter I'm stuck!"

"Oh, no, you're not pulling that one, Beth," he laughed, continuing up the slope, not looking down to see that she was telling the truth. She pulled futilely at her foot, but it still wouldn't come loose. 

Hunter made it to the top, and pressed the button victoriously. Without even thinking about it, he let go of the wall with both his arms and his legs, and his body was suddenly suspended by nothing but the rope that connected him to the ground. 

Lucky for him, the harness kept him from falling to the floor some thirty feet below him. Unlucky for Beth, his body swung out of control, and he ended up smashing her right into the wall. 

He heard her muffled cry and the sickening sound of a thick, dry snap! He saw the broken peg falling to the ground, and Beth was hanging limp from her own harness, her foot still crammed in the wall.

I'm all the way in chapter 70 something and I'm so anxious to get you guys to my level! xD I know I update too much. :P

In any case...just a little twist here to distract you from the fact that they are not yet in a relationship. xD
