Hunter. It's Hunter.

"HUNTER WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? What is wrong with you?! Who is that guy?! Do you have ANY idea how terrified I was?! I thought I was going to DIE! WHAT THE HELL, HUNTER!"

Hunter watched her scream at him, and he couldn't help but smile to himself. He hadn't meant to scare her, but, boy, she was cute when she was mad. He sighed. She's not mine anymore. I have no right to think so. I miss you so much Beth.

When her tyraid was over, he opened his mouth to say, "I'm sorry I scared you. That wasn't the point. That guy's name is Randy. He works for me."

Her eyes got even wider, and she sputtered a bit. Her fear was disappating, but that was only leaving her to realize that she was alone in a hotel room with Hunter...again. This was not a good thing, even if it wasn't as bad as she'd originally thought. She wasn't going to die physically, but she wasn't so sure about emotionally.

She grasped tight to her anger, keeping the hurt at bay. "So you sent your goony out to find me, drag me down the street to this abandoned hotel and scare the living daylights out of me? WHY?! What could POSSIBLY be that important?!"

Hunter laughed, which only infuriated her more. How can you laugh at me, Hunter? After everything else you've done to me - to Amanda - you can stand there and laugh at me? Why did you even bring me here? To rub it in my face? To privately repudiate me? Sorry that I don't want to stick around for that.

She turned to leave, but Hunter called out to her before she turned the doorknob.

"No, Beth, wait! I'm sorry. Please don't leave. I need to talk to you." He pressed forward, intent on pulling her from the door if he needed to. He reached for her shoulder, but she shrugged him away, scowling fiercely at him.

"Don't touch me, Hunter."

Oh, how those words ripped his heart. He held back his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay. Please, Beth. Can we just sit down and talk about this like normal human beings?"

She folded her arms and glared at him. "No, we most certainly can NOT. You sent a man to kill me, Hunter!"

"No, I didn't, Beth!" he said, trying to hold in his laughter. She was just so adorable. Beth, I've missed you so much. I love you so much. God, this hurts so bad.

She sputtered, not sure what to say, but feeling her anger rising again. She hit him square in the chest, making him take a step back. "Then who was that guy?! What did he have to be so freaking suspicious?"

Hunter sighed. She was obviously very upset about this, and no matter how cute it was, he needed it to end so he could talk to her about Amanda. So he opened the door and waved Randy into the room.

"Randy, this is Bethany. Bethany, this is Randy."

Bethany looked at Randy warily, as he stuck out his hand and smiled for the first time since she'd first seen him. Huh, she thought, taking his sledge-hammer of a hand in hers, He doesn't look like a maniac when he smiles. Who knew?

"Randy is my body guard." Hunter turned to him. "Did you have to scare her, Rand? She's been chewing my ear off since she got in here!"

Randy laughed, and Bethany was shocked. He could laugh? That monster-looking fellow that she'd just imagined shoving her down the elevator shaft could feel joy? Oh, hush, Beth. You're being unfair.

"Sorry, boss. You did say not to tell her you wanted to talk to her. I was just having a little fun. Sorry for scaring you, ma'am," he said, and Hunter shooed him from the room.
