Beth, please talk to me. I love you.

Tuesday, 3 AM Hunter

I know it's late. I can't sleep. I'm still thinking about you. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I'm not going to make the mistake of not calling you anymore. You haven't answered me yet, but you will. I love you.

Tuesday, 4 PM Hunter

I'm about to go to soundcheck. I love you.

Wednesday, 12:01 AM Hunter

Beth, we just finished playing a show. Know what happened? There was a girl in the crowd with a sign that said, "Get Her Back." I didn't see it at first. Actually Devo was the one who pointed it out. I stared at it for so long that the girls in the front all turned around to see it. Then they started chanting your name. "We want Beth! We want Beth!!" All I could think was...I want Beth, too. I hope you're sleeping well, because I'm not. Please talk to me. I love you.

Thursday, 2 PM Hunter

I love you. Do you believe me yet?

Friday, 1 AM Hunter

I'm beginning to think my fans are only coming to my shows to get us back together now. Know what they were screaming tonight? When I played "I Want Crazy", they changed the lyrics, as if they'd rehearsed it! It was "Our first date, girl, the seasons changed. It got washed away in a night of shame. I can't undo a fall like this, because Bethany's the best there is." And then the chorus ended with, "I don't want easy: I want Bethany." I actually had to stop singing, because everybody was repeating the line over and over again. Seriously, though, Beth...they're right. Come on, talk to me! Do it for the fans! I love you.

Saturday, Noon Hunter

I love you.

Sunday, 4:30 PM Hunter

I miss you. Talk to me. I know I said I'd give you time, but it's been almost a week and I'm going crazy. I love you.

Monday, 11 AM Hunter

I can't taste my coffee. I love you.

Tuesday, 5:50 PM Hunter

Every day of your life. I promised I'd say it. I love you. It's still the truth. I love you.

Beth re-read the messages each day, but they weren't helping much. She kept running, faster and longer and harder each day. She couldn't figure out why she was so terrified. There was no other way to describe it: she was horrified of something...she just couldn't figure out what it was.

Skillet had stopped in Nashville for a couple of days to do some interviews with the Atlantic Records people. So, since she had a few days to herself, she was trying to find ways to keep her mind occupied. She'd visited Amanda a couple of times already, but she still had way too much down time. This meant she was spending a lot of time browsing music stores, playing her ill-used guitar, and running. Lots of running.

She was jogging past an antique shop closer to downtown when her ankle gave out suddenly and painfully. It twisted at an unhealthy angle, making her crash into a brunette woman who was standing there with her husband.

"Ouch, oh, geez, ouch! I'm so sorry ma'am are you okay?" Bethany fumbled to help the woman up, but she couldn't get off the ground herself.

"I'm fine, honey," the woman replied, standing and reaching down to help Beth up as well. "Did you hurt your ankle?"
