She turned over in bed, snuggling deeper into the soft sheets and smiling. A moment later, she opened her eyes to see the hotel room washed in sunlight. Her gown, which Hunter had tried to help her out of last night, was slung carelessly over the chair in the corner, and the heels he'd unbuckled and pulled off her feet lay in a pile next to her bed. Her hand flew up to her neck, where Hunter's beautiful gift was still resting against her skin.
It was real. Last night really happened. She smiled, sitting bolt upright. And I can see again! She was relieved, but she was more than just relieved. She was ecstatic! Last night had been fantastic, even allowing for the pain in her head and her dizziness. Hunter had made it all worth while.
I am so attached to you, Hunter. She wasn't ready to use the dreaded "L" word yet, but she felt it pressing on her mind.
She jumped out of bed and went into the bathroom to run the water in the tub, intent on taking a bath, just because she could. The tour bus wasn't leaving until late tonight, so she had the whole day to spend either out on the town, or with her amazing boyfriend.
She wondered idly how the after party had been, resolving to ask him later. She expected he hadn't had much fun, as parties weren't really his thing, but she imagined he'd say something cute to make it seem like her absence had been what put a damper on that part of the evening. She smiled, reminiscing on all the adorable things he'd done yesterday.
She pulled the necklace from her neck and laid it gently on the counter, then pulled her tank top over her head, wiggled out of her shorts, and dipped slowly into the scalding hot water.
Mmm, she thought, this is the life.
She relaxed into the tub, and her mind wandered to John Cooper. I still can't believe he offered me a job! I'll have to thank Ned for that. She had decided not to take him up on it, though. She had Hunter now, and she was starting to believe that he didn't intend to hurt her. How could she let that go when he was the best thing that had ever happened to her? And she loved Sam and Matt and Steve and Devo and Ned and Betsy and Nancy...she couldn't leave them, could she? No, she'd stick with them, at least until the end of their tour. After that, she'd just see what happened.
She resolved to ask Ned for the number John had mentioned, so she could reject the job. Maybe they'd let her work on a tour later on? That would be really cool!
About an hour later, she got out of the bath, toweled off and got dressed for the day. She was in a great mood, so she decided to try to look attractive, pulling on a skirt and a flowy, patterned top and a pair of sandals that made her about an inch taller. She pulled her hair back in a high ponytail and even applied a little eye makeup. It didn't look near as good as Nancy's handiwork had, but it would do. She put on Hunter's necklace, though it was far too fancy for a day on the town, and pulled on a pair of sunglasses before grabbing her purse and heading out the door.
She checked her watch. It was only 9 AM. She wondered if any of the guys would be awake. With that thought in mind, she nearly skipped over to Sam's room. She'd have gone straight to see Hunter, but she figured he probably had a bunch of interviews to do this morning and would therefore be unavailable.
Sam answered, already dressed for the day. "Hey, Beth," he said cheerily.
"Hello, handsome," she greeted him warmly, punching his shoulder. "Want to go get some coffee with me?"
"You read my mind. I was just headed down to the Starbucks down the street. Join me?" He held out his arm and she took it, laughing at him. He was such a great friend. They skipped into the elevator and she took her hand back to answer her ringing phone.
"Hello?"
"Beth! It's Ned. Why are you awake right now?" She laughed.
"Well, I've been up for a couple hours. Sam and I are going to get coffee. Want to come with?"
Ned scoffed. "I've already had three cups. I think I'm good. Anyway, where's Hunter? He was supposed to be here for an interview, and he hasn't shown up yet."
Beth crinkled her eyebrows in confusion. "I haven't seen him, Ned. He went to the after party last night and I haven't seen him since then. He's probably just sleeping, though. He may have just forgotten."
Ned nodded on the other end, trying not to let her know how worried he was. Something wasn't right about this. Hunter had never been late for an interview. He'd never overslept, either. Ned walked out the door of the radio station and saw a magazine stand across the street. He headed over to see if there was anything over there about Hunter's award.
"Yeah, you're probably right, Beth," he replied, ducking across the street. "I'll call him a few more times, hopefully wake him up. You two kids have fun, okay?"
"All right, Ned, thanks!" Beth hung up, only feeling a little bit worried. Hunter was just asleep. That was all. She shrugged off her concern and struck up a conversation with Sam.
Ned halted in front of the magazine stand, frozen in shock by what he saw. "Oh, no," he gasped, grabbing a nearby copy of People. "This can NOT be happening."
He clicked Hunter's contact number furiously, simultaneously paying the guy behind the counter for the magazine.
"Hunter, you are in so much trouble."
Short again, I know. xD Not too sweet, though, is it?
