Hanging on to the Edge of a Kiss

Today was the day. Hunter woke up and immediately jumped out of his bunk. He checked his watch and noticed he was a bit early, but he didn't mind. He was so excited for this video shoot! If he was being honest with himself, he really just couldn't wait to hang out with Beth, even if it was in front of a camera.

He knew he was in too deep here. He had it bad, and he still had no idea how to make her return his feelings. He didn't even know if it was possible. You can't make the heart feel something it won't. He was sure as hell going to try, though. He wanted Bethany more than anyone he'd ever met, and he was never gave up on a challenge.

With a spring in his step and hope in his smile, he opened the door to the living area. Inside, he saw Bethany and Sam, sitting right next to each other and watching a video on Bethany's laptop that was apparently very funny. Sam's arm was resting on the back of the couch behind Beth's shoulders, and Hunter was immediately struck by jealousy.

Calm down, Hunt. It's just Sam.

"Good morning, guys. You are up early," he commented, trying to act normally as he headed straight for the coffee machine.

Beth was feeling much better after spending some time with Sam. He had a way of calming her down, and she truly appreciated all the advice and encouragement he'd given her this morning. Seeing Hunter still put a knot of worry in her stomach - does he know? - but she had made the decision to act normal, as though last night hadn't happened and they were still just really good friends. To act as though this video shoot was not a big deal at all, as thought she did this sort of thing all the time. It was going to be a true test of her acting ability, because she'd be acting all day, not just in front of the camera.

"Yeah, I couldn't sleep and then Sam joined me. We've been watching funny videos." Bethany's voice sounded normal enough, but Sam noticed that it shook just a little. He chuckled under his breath. Those two really were cute. He'd seen Hunter's eye flare a bit when he'd caught him sitting with her. They needed to just get it over with and get together so Sam could win his hundred bucks from Matt. How could Matt possibly bet against these two? They were so obviously in love with each other.

"Cool. So, Beth, are you ready for the video shoot?" Hunter asked, plopping down beside her and looking at her with intensity. She knew exactly what he was really asking, and he really wanted to know the answer. Had the kissed worked? Was she going to be able to do it on set? More importantly, had the kiss made her fall for him?

Bethany didn't let any of her emotions show in her eyes, except her normal cheeriness, which was resurfacing even as she spoke. Hunter always made her feel giddy, even when she was tense with stress. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be, Hunter. Are you?"

He smiled. "I was born ready."

"It looks like it's going to rain again, Betsy," Ned commented, looking up at the darkened sky and shaking his head. "We can't catch a break, can we?"

Betsy kept adjusting the camera angle, but replied, "It's not supposed to start for about six hours, though. We should be able to get a lot of the shooting done in that time."

Ned nodded. "Actually, Bets, I was having a thought yesterday. I told you about Bethany, right? Our backstage director that I've hired to replace Shelby? Well, I saw her and Hunter out in the rain yesterday, and they looked like they were having a blast. What if we did a couple of shots of them playing in the rain like they were yesterday? That would fit right in with the song, don't you think?"

Betsy thought it over, then nodded her head. "Wow, yes. If you're right about that, that would be perfect. I have to go tell makeup and hair, though, so they can waterproof everybody's faces."
