"No, thank you!" Hunter exclaimed, smiling ear to ear.
"Okay, then, Mr. Hayes. We'll see you there!"
"Absolutely! Thank you so much!" The two men said their goodbyes and the line went dead. Hunter pumped his fist in the air. It didn't matter how many times this kind of thing happened. He was still totally stoked out of his mind when it did.
He checked his watch. It was two in the morning. The man who had called was on the other side of the country, so he couldn't be blamed for the early hour. Still, Hunter knew that everyone was asleep, except the driver. Poor man had to stay up until they got to the next tour destination.
He had to tell Beth. There was just too much excitement running through his veins for him to keep it to himself.
He paced quietly over to her bunk and tiptoed up the ladder. He drew back the curtain near her face slowly, hoping to catch her while she was asleep. Her hair was in disarray, and her stomach rose and fell with each peaceful breath. As he watched, her eyelashes moved back and forth quickly.
They say that means you're dreaming, he thought. Wonder what she's dreaming about?
Suddenly, the corners of her mouth lifted into a smile. She sighed and snuggled closer to the mattress, still smiling happily.
Whatever it is, it must be good.
He just watched her for a while, struck again by how much he loved her. They'd only been together a month, but he was already more committed to her than he'd ever been to anyone else. He would do anything for her, and he couldn't understand what he could have possibly done to deserve her affection.
God must really love me. He made me the luckiest man in the world.
That thought reminded him of his big news, so he reached out to brush his fingers against Beth's cheek. Her eyes fluttered and then opened, and she smiled at him.
"Hey," she whispered, somehow managing to sound like she'd been awake for hours, instead of having been rudely torn from her dreams. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes?" Her hand emerged from under her blankets and pressed his more firmly to her face.
He chuckled as quietly as possible. He's so adorable in the morning, Beth thought, propping herself up on her elbows. How is it possible that this man is mine? She leaned forward, grasped his face between her hands and kissed him. His hand found its way into her sleep-tossed hair, and he let out a muffled sound of contentment. She laughed, pulling away.
He brushed her hair out of her face and asked, "What were you dreaming about? You were smiling."
She giggled. "I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count."
He laughed, trying to keep silent. "Okay. You were dreaming about Matt."
She swatted his arm. "No, silly. Guess again."
He grabbed her hand and held it against his chest. "You were dreaming about Zac Efron?"
She scooted closer to him. "Tempting, but no," she joked.
"Hmm," he said, kissing her again. "Were you perhaps dreaming about a blonde boy?"
"Yes," she replied between kisses. "One with the best blue eyes I've ever seen."
"Oh?" he said, trying to get closer but being stopped by the bunk. "One who wakes you up ridiculously early?"
She laughed, smiling into his kisses. He moved down her cheek to press his lips to her neck. "Yep. That's the one," she replied, stifling the urge to gasp as his lips touched her earlobe.
