Do Something

He was just sitting there, his arms crossed and his mind out of focus, staring at the door to the studio and thinking about Beth. It had been a week. A whole week, and she still wasn't back. He missed her so much it made him want to cry. He'd been hanging out alone in his studio during every last bit of down time he had, which had thankfully not been much in the last week. Between interviews, shows, and time spent hanging out with fans and followers, he had only been able to spend a few hours a day in his solitude.

He sighed. He'd slipped a little this morning when a fan had asked about his love life.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" she'd asked flirtateously. He thought her name was Pearl, or something like that. She'd twirled her long blonde hair around her finger and batted her eyes, just like in a movie.

He'd laughed, and obviously Beth had been the only girl in his mind. "Hopefully soon," he'd replied, mentally hitting himself over the head with a brick. Why had he said that? That gave far too much away, unless the girl just took it to mean he wanted to meet someone. You're so stupid, Hunt, he'd thought, distracting the girl with a hug and a winning smile.

The door to the studio opened and Sam walked in, smiling at him and coming over to sit beside him.

"What's up, Sam?" He asked, pulling his phone from his pocket and pretending like he had been hanging out in there for some reason other than to sulk in private.

Sam just nodded at him slowly. He kept eye contact, making Hunter squirm under his gaze.

"What?" he asked, not liking the mischievous look in Sam's eyes.

"What's going on with you, Hunter? You've barely spoken to anybody in a week."

"What do you mean? I talk to you guys all the time!" he protested weakly. He knew Sam was right. He'd been avoiding conversation because he was afraid he'd start rambling on and on about Beth. And who wanted to hear that? He was pathetic, and he didn't want anybody to know. It was hard enough to hide it in his interviews and with a million nosy fans breathing down his neck all the time. He didn't need the guys getting on his case, too.

Sam laughed. "Oh, come on, Hunt. You know what I'm talking about. Ever since we left Beth behind you've been holed up in here, sulking like a little girl. And we all know you aren't working back here; the walls aren't sound-proof, you know."

He sighed and rubbed his eyes. "I don't know, man. It's been a tough week."

Sam slapped him on the back. "I know what you mean, bro. We all miss her. But she'll be back soon. And don't feel bad about it; I know it was technically your fault, but it could have happened to anybody. Beth won't hold it against you."

I hadn't even thought about it that way, but thanks, Sam. Now I'm worried about that, too.

"And I know your secret, by the way," Sam remarked, pulling Hunter out of his thoughts again. Sam winked at him, and Hunter's heart beat nervously. He knows what secret?

"What are you talking about, Sam?"

He laughed, hitting Hunter's shoulder again. "Oh, come on, dude! It's so obvious that you like Beth. I'm surprised more people don't know by now. And that silly "I don't like perfect music" metaphor at the show the other night? Did you really think we couldn't figure out what you were getting at? You like Beth! Admit it!"

He rolled his eyes at Sam, but he couldn't deny it. He'd been caught red-handed, and besides, he trusted Sam not to say anything. He'd known Sam a long time, and he was a good guy. He wouldn't screw this up for him.

"Yeah, okay, fine. I like Beth. So what?"

Sam laughed again. "So, I for one would like to know what you plan to do about it."

Hunter scratched the back of his neck and thought about it for a second. He'd battled with himself over that very question all week. He'd resolved and unresolved to tell her the truth about a hundred times in the last three days alone, and before that, he'd been back and forth over whether or not he'd kiss her when she returned. He had no idea what he was going to do about it, and he wasn't sure when or if he'd ever know.

"I don't know, man. I'm just taking this one day at a time."

"Well, you had better figure it out, dude. You do realize that this tour only lasts 18 months, right? And it's been almost six already. If you wait too much longer, Beth may be gone. Haven't you thought of that? I mean, Hunter, come on. She's great at her job. I'm sure every star on the horizon would be more than happy to give her twice as much money as us to do the same job. And if that happens, you won't see her...maybe not ever. So you need to buck up, bro. Do something about it. " Also, I have  a hundred dollar bet with Matt that you two will get together, so do it for me, old pal. My wallet is looking a little too flat recently.

Hunter was astonished. He really hadn't thought of that at all. What if she did find somewhere else? What if she found someone else? He rubbed his face in frustration. He really needed to get a grip on this situation.

"Sam, I think she has a problem with love. Have you ever noticed before? She doesn't really trust anybody. And every time somebody talks about love, she kind of wrinkles her nose and her eyes get really dull, like she's disgusted by the thought. Or maybe she just doesn't believe it exists. I don't know. But I think that's going to be a major obstacle."

Sam patted him reassuringly. "It's okay, Hunter. If she's worth it, then I'm sure you'll find a way to break down her barriers. If she's not worth it, than you need to get over her right now. Because it isn't fair to you to feel something for someone you have no intention of fighting for."

Hunter nodded. "I would do anything for Beth."

Sam nodded. Good. I've got a lot riding on this.

"Good. Then when she gets back, do something about this, because we all know it's a thing. You can't hide it from us, bud."

He laughed. "I guess not." Sam got up and opened the door, turning back and saying, "Hey, join us. Get out of this room for a while; it's going to start feeling like prison."

Hunter got up off the love seat and followed Sam to the living area, thinking about everything Sam had said.

It is probably time I do something about this. Sam is probably right.

Why is that so terrifying?

Second installment in today's CHAPTER SPREE! :D If this has been posted, it means that at least five of you have seen my (imperfect) cover of Hunter's beautiful song, "Homesick". Thank you to everybody who watched it! :D YOU'RE EPIC! :D I hope you enjoyed it. <3

REMEMBER: TO GET THE NEXT INSTALLMENT YOU GUYS HAVE TO "DO SOMETHING". POST IN THE COMMENTS A UNIT OF MEASURMENT THAT MOST ACCURATELY DESCRIBES HOW MUCH YOU WANT BETHANY AND HUNTER TO GET TOGETHER ALREADY!!! Ex: I want Hethany to get together so much that if you wrapped my anxiety around the moon and the earth, it would make an infinity sign. (That didn't make much sense. Sorry. xD You got me though. :P)

I don't know about you guys, but I have a lot of respect for males who ask girls out. I mean, that takes a lot of guts. And I totally understand why Hunter is afraid here (I know, I'm pretending like I didn't write this. xD ), but I wish he weren't. xD I'm trying to keep them in character here and draw out the suspense, but sometimes I just want to skip it all and start writing the cute chapters. :3

Anyway, if you guys are still reading, you're awesome, I love you! Vote, comment, spread the love! You guys are fantastic! God bless and Happy reading!
