The party was just as he'd expected it to be: loud and crowded. He snagged a seat at the bar so he could look around the room for someone he knew, but before he could find anyone, he was interrupted by the bartender.
"Do you want something to drink?" the man questioned, cleaning a beer glass in his hands.
"Oh, no, I'm fine," Hunter replied, tapping on the counter and looking around again. A red dress caught his eye and he sucked in a breath.
Oh, dear Lord. Why is she even here? He whipped around to face the bar, and the bartender raised an eyebrow at him questioningly.
"On second thought, I'm going to need a drink." The bartender smirked and walked away, not even asking what kind he'd like. He headed to the other side of the bar, where Hunter saw Amanda was sitting elegantly perched on a stool.
Amanda slipped gracefully into the seat, and leaned alluringly across the bar, catching and holding the bartender's eye.
"Can I get you something, gorgeous?" She laughed and motioned for him to get closer.
"Actually, I need you to do something for me," she whispered, like she was sharing some big secret with him. "See that guy over there in the grey suit who's trying so hard to avoid looking at me? I need you to spike his drink. I don't trust him to get drunk on his own, so I need his first drink to be really...intoxicating," she finished, running her tongue over her lips. "Can you do that?"
"For you, babe, anything." He winked and went back to work making Hunter's drink, trying to keep up a string of crude flirting with her. She played her part beautifully, but the second the bartender left to give Hunter his beverage, she hopped off the bar stool and made her way through the crowd.
Hunter blew out the breath he'd been holding when he saw Amanda leave the bar. Great. This is just what I needed. Amanda is here and Beth is not. My luck is awful right now. He sighed and took a long gulp of his drink. He coughed, immediately regretting that decision. He'd forgotten for a moment that he was drinking liquor, not water. Blech. At least Amanda is gone.
"Hey there, stranger," she said, materializing behind him and pressing her far too visible body against his back. He recoiled, turning around in a flash, almost knocking her to the ground.
"Amanda!" he said it too loudly, he knew. He didn't want to talk to her. Gah, why?! Please, go away! You're going to complicate things for me! What if someone is taking pictures of us right now?
"I missed you," Amanda said, moving forward to stand between his legs and wrap herself around him. He pushed her back, but she didn't stop touching him, instead just running her hands over his thighs.
"Amanda, stop." She did, though huffily. She folded her arms in front of her chest and glared at him. He took another long drink, draining his glass. Whoa. Is my vision already blurry? That was fast.
"I want you back, Hunt. I'm so lost without you." He wanted to roll his eyes. He wanted to run away. He wanted to find Beth and let her scratch Amanda's eyes out.
He wanted another drink.
"Hey, can I get another one please?" He held up his glass and the bartender took it from him. "Thanks."
"Come on, Hunter," Amanda said, running her hands over his thighs again. He pushed her hands away again, but she was more persistent this time. "I know you want me. I'm here. You can have any part of me you want." She leaned forward again and whispered something in his ear that made him cringe. Words like that should never be uttered.
"Amanda, stop! Please, just stop!" He took his second drink from the bartender, gulping down as much as he could, coughing loudly, and then finishing the rest. His throat burned uncomfortably, but he didn't care. He just wanted to get out of there.
"I'm going to dance," he announced, definitely not meaning it as the invitation she seemed to think it was. She began to follow him, but he put his hand up and said, "Alone."
He forced his way into the crowd and stood there awkwardly. He was already feeling the effects of the alcohol on his body. The edges of his sight were already blurry, and he was feeling the strangest urge to...sway?
He rocked back and forth on his heels. Whoa, this is a great song. Soon, he was dancing like a lunatic, and a familiar red dress was gyrating against him. He didn't care. This is my JAM!
"Yeah!" he yelled, spinning in circles with his hands raised.
They danced for ages, and finally he was tired. He leaned heavily on Amanda as she led him to the door.
"Come on, Hunt. I'll help you back to your hotel."
He slurred at her, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Thans youh, Bethery. I lerve youh so muck."
Amanda rolled her eyes, stumbling under his weight. "Come on, big guy." She found Derek Uggs in the crowd, and signaled for him to follow. "It's time to finish this."
I'm so disappointed in humanity. I realize I could change this at any time, since I'm the author and I ultimately determine these characters' fates ( SO MUCH POWER ), but these ideas are just...I DID say it was going to get intense. Let's wait it out. ;)
Anyway, you guys are great, thank you SO MUCH for reading, commenting, and voting! :D
