Wake Up and Love Me

"Bethany! Oh my God, Bethany!" Hunter screamed as his body continued to swing back and forth out of control. He couldn't get close enough to help her, and he couldn't get close enough to the wall to grab on again. "Bethany, wake up!"

Ryan started to lower her rope, but Hunter called down to him. "Her foot is stuck! I have to get it out!"

Ryan helped Hunter move closer to the wall, and when he was there he climbed straight over to Beth and loosened her foot from the socket. He was so scared. She was out cold, and her angelic face looked like it had no life left. Had he killed her? She couldn't be dead. He hadn't hit her that hard, had he?

Oh my God, Beth please don't die. I haven't even gotten the chance to tell you I love you yet. You have to stay alive. You have to wake up and love me back. Wake up, Beth.

Finally, both Hunter and Bethany were on the ground, and Ryan informed them that the paramedics were on their way. Hunter crouched next to her on the floor, pressing his ear to her heart and almost fainting in relief when he heard it beating loud and strong. She's alive. Thank God, she's alive. Wake up, Beth.

He pushed her ball cap off her head, and smoothed back the messy mat on her skull. A sickening bump the size of a golf ball was beginning to form on the side of her head.

Oh, my Lord it's a tumor! She has a tumor? How did I not know she had a tumor?!

Wait...it's not a tumor. CALM DOWN HUNTER. You hit her in the head, idiot! It's swelling because your fat butt crashed into it, what do you think?

He almost laughed at how crazy he was being. "Do you have a cold towel or some ice?" he asked Ryan, trying not to let the frantic pace of his thoughts show through his voice. The last thing he needed was somebody taking pictures of him freaking out over a girl he'd managed to knock unconscious.

Ryan returned with a plastic bag full of ice that was wrapped in a towel. Gingerly, Hunter pressed it to Bethany's head, right where the bump was still swelling.

"Beth, you have to wake up. The paramedics will be here in a minute, and they're going to want to ask you some questions. Beth, you have to wake up." He couldn't stop staring at her face, her beautiful face. Why hadn't she woken up yet? What had he done? What if she never woke up? What if she didn't remember him if she did? What was he going to do? He could feel tears rising in his throat, but he forced himself not to cry, not here in front of all these people.

The paramedics finally arrived, and made him move to the side. He hovered worriedly, watching as they assessed her condition and lifted her onto a gurny to be moved to the hospital down the street.

"Why does she need to go to the hospital?" Hunter asked frantically. It couldn't possibly be that bad, right? She was fine! She was okay! She'd wake up and everything would be back to normal! You can't take her away from me!

"We just need to make sure everything is okay, and we'll hold her there until she wakes up so we can assess whether or not the impact damaged her memory."

DAMAGED HER MEMORY! OH, GOD PLEASE NO. BETH, DO YOU HEAR ME? WAKE UP AND REMEMBER ME!

"I'm going with you," Hunter announced, hearing the embarrassing crack of his voice, and the high pitch at which it came out. Still, he charged towards the ambulance and climbed straight into the back, taking a seat close to Bethany's face and taking her hand. The paramedics didn't say anything to him, just climbed in beside him and closed the door.

They turned the sirens on. This is not good. The sirens are on and she's not going to remember me. Beth, WAKE UP.

He was gripping her hand too tightly. He knew he was, and yet he couldn't stop. All the way to the hospital, he fought the urge to curl her body into his chest, to fight the paramedics who would try to stop him. He fought the urge to yell and scream that she was fine, she was FINE, and jump out of the moving ambulance and run away with her in his arms. He fought the tears that pushed against his eyes, but a few escaped anyway, and he could only be glad that he had thought to put his sunglasses back on.

One of the paramedics, a nice looking red-headed woman, touched Hunter's shoulder softly, making him jump and look at her briefly. He nodded at her, but then went back to staring at Beth, willing her to wake up and jump into his embrace.

"You look pretty worn, son," the woman said. "Is she yours?"

Hunter almost laughed at that. No, but you have no idea how much I wish she was. Beth, wake up and love me.

"No, ma'am. She's just a really good friend." He sighed in longing, the breath sounding choked even from his own ears.

She nodded, and he saw it out of the corner of his eyes. "But you'd like more than that," she said, meriting a guess based on his behavior towards her.

"Yes," he said, without thinking about it. He snapped out of his daze for a minute to look at the woman. "But please don't tell anybody that!" It would be awful if something like that ended up in the newspapers or the tabloids before he'd had a chance to tell Beth himself.

She laughed. "Who would I know who'd be interested in such a thing?"

Hunter sighed in relief again. She must not be a fan of his, then. "Thank you," he replied, staring back at Beth's face.

We're almost there, Beth. They're going to wake you up, and you're going to remember me. And one day you're going to smile at me again and when I'm brave enough, I'm going to tell you just how much that smile means to me. One day, I'm going to tell you how much I love you. So, come on, Beth. Wake up! You have to be here for those moments. I have to hear you say it back. Wake up, darling. Please.

I love you.

Okay, so I'll be incapable of updating this weekend because I'll be in Atlanta with the marching band and then I'll be editing and piecing together my MUSIC VIDEO for "Silver-Lined Storm Cloud"! :D It's an original song...by ME! :D (My FIRST EVER)

I'm so freaking stoked about this guys. I'm entering the video (the song, really) for a competition for singer-songwriters hosted by Martin Guitars. If you guys could, I'd reallly, REALLY appreciate it if you'd go and read my book "Song Lyrics by Yours Truly", just to help a brotha out and tell me how you like my lyrics. I'll also be posting the music video (directed, edited, and filmed by me) to that story as well as on my Youtube and Facebook accounts. Please, please, please, support me in this! This is a HUGE opportunity, and I'm SO STOKED about it!

Thank you so much, whether you decide to help or not! :D You guys are great! JUST FANTASTIC! :D Thank you a million and 7.89! :D

Also, just a reminder to vote, comment, fangirl over Hunter, all are acceptable. (: Love you guys! I hope you're still reading, because this story is just going to keep getting better and better! :D God bless and Happy Reading!
