Chapter 8
The next day...
Kelsey POV
I found Riker standing at my locker when I got to school this morning. His face looked pale and he looked exhausted.
"Hey. Are you ok?" I asked, walking over to him.
"I just had a bad night, I guess..." Riker mumbled.
"Well are you ok? What happened?"
Riker pulled up his sleeves, and I saw fresh cuts.
"Riker, what happened?"
"I just felt so awful, and I felt like I had no control, and I just did it."
He was starting to cry, and I didn't want Wyatt to see him and make fun of him.
"Don't cry. We'll talk about this at lunch, ok?"
I pulled him into a tight hug, and he calmed down.
"Don't worry, ok? We'll figure it out."
"Ok," he whispered.
I pulled away and opened my locker. I swapped some of my books out, and then shut it.
"Are you going to be ok until lunch?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Sure?"
"I'm sure."
"Ok. I'll see you later, ok Riker?"
He nodded.
"Text me if you need anything."
"Ok."
I went to class, hoping Riker would be ok until lunch.
Later...
Kelsey POV
I sat next to Riker in math class. I was becoming really worried about him because he looked like he was going to cry any second.
"Ok, class. You can work together on the homework for the rest of the period," our teacher said.
"Want to work on the homework together?" I asked Riker.
He nodded, and opened his notebook. We had 20 questions to answer in the textbook.
"Are you ok?" I whispered.
He nodded again.
"We just have one more period after this and then lunch, and then we can talk," I said, opening the textbook to the correct page.
"My wrists hurt," Riker whispered.
"Bad?"
He nodded.
"Did you cut again since last night?"
"No. They're just sore."
I took Riker's hand in mine and squeezed it tight.
"It's going to be ok. Try not to focus on the pain and focus on the math instead."
I wrote down the first math problem, and Riker did the same. I think I have a slightly better understanding of math than Riker, so I was mostly helping him.
Later...
Riker POV
I waited for Kelsey at her locker before lunch. She showed up about a minute after I did.
"Ready for lunch?" She asked.
I nodded. She took my hand, and we walked to the cafeteria together. We sat at a table in the back.
