Chapter 9
Later...
Kelsey POV
"How do your wrists feel? Any better yet?" I asked.
"Yeah, actually. They're not bothering me as much anymore."
"Good."
Riker and I were up in my treehouse right now. Riker had asked if we could come up here. I think it feels calmer and more relaxing up here for him. Maybe it helps him clear his mind a bit.
He was currently laying on the floor with his head on a pillow and a few blankets beneath him.
"Have you ever slept up here before?" Riker asked.
"No. Why?"
"I don't know. It seems like it would be fun. Like camping, except... different."
"Well... If you want to come over this weekend, we could try it."
"Really?"
"Yeah, why not. You seem like you feel better when you're away from home, and I like hanging out with you. Sleeping up here seems like a fun idea. So why not?"
Riker smiled super big.
"I'm so excited."
I laughed.
"You're funny," I said, smiling.
"Why?"
"I don't know. You just get excited over small things, and it's funny."
"It's not a small thing! This is like the best thing ever!"
I laughed.
"See? Funny," I said, pointing at him.
"Whatever," he said, rolling his eyes.
"If it would really make you feel better, you can even stay the whole weekend if you want."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Thanks!"
He sat up and hugged me tight.
"We need to have games, and candy, and blankets-"
"Whoa, Riker! You're going too fast! Let me make a list!" I said, laughing.
"Ready?"
"Yes," I said, going into the note app on my phone.
"Games. Candy. Blankets. Snacks. Flashlights. Drinks."
"Is that it?"
"That's all I can think of. I've only had one sleepover before."
I laughed again.
"I'm not that funny!" Riker whined.
"Yes, you are! And we can work on the math project too, since it's due on Monday."
"Oh, right... I hate math."
"Same. The sooner we finish it though, the sooner we're done with it."
Riker sighed, and looked at me.
"What?" I asked.
"I think my appetite is back."
I laughed.
"Ok, well let's go get something for dinner then."
