Chapter 18

Later...

Riker POV

I went straight home after class. I didn't stick around by Kelsey's locker. I just wanted to be alone.

When I got home, mom called me into the kitchen.

"How was school, honey?"

"Fine..."

"Do you want a snack? I baked some brownies today."

"No, I'm not hungry... I'm going to go upstairs and do my homework."

"Ok."

I went upstairs and took my journal out of my bag. I hid it inside of my dresser. I'm never taking it out of this room again.

I went to the bathroom and locked the door. I took the razor blade out of my phone case, and pulled my sleeves up.

I pushed the blade against my wrist and made a slice. I winced a little in pain.

I wasn't feeling any better from that cut, so I did it again. And again. And again.

But it wasn't making me feel any better. So I just kept going.

I accidentally pressed down too hard on one, and it really hurt. It wasn't helping me feel better, and it was just hurting a lot, so I put my blade away. I turned the faucet on and rinsed my wrists off. They burned so bad.

All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door.

"Riker?"

It was Ross. Everyone was getting home from school. I guess I spent longer in here than I thought.

"Um... What?" I asked.

"I need to pee, and Rocky's in the bathroom downstairs. Hurry up!"

"I'll be out in a minute."

I checked my wrists to make sure they weren't bleeding, and then pulled my sleeves down. And then I left the bathroom and went back to my room.

I flopped down on my bed and sighed. My wrists hurt, and now I feel even more miserable.

"Riker."

I turned and saw Ryland in my doorway.

"What?"

"Mom says you need to help me with my homework."

I sighed. I don't feel like it.

"Tell mom I don't feel good."

"Ok..."

He left. I groaned and pulled a pillow over my head.

A minute later, I felt my bed dip down, and I was positive it was mom.

"Ryland said you don't feel well. Is that true?" Mom asked.

"Yes," I mumbled.

"Is that why you weren't hungry for a snack?"

"Yes."

"What doesn't feel good?"

"My head. It hurts."

"Do you want me to get you some medicine?"

"No. I just need to take a nap."

"Ok, honey. I'll have someone wake you up for dinner, ok?"

"Ok..."

Mom left. I decided to take a nap. Maybe I'll feel better when I wake up...
