Chapter 21

A few days later...

Riker POV

Dear Journal,

It's weird having Rocky knowing about my cuts and stuff. He's being so protective over me now.

He sits next to me at dinner, helps me with my chores, and hangs out with me for the rest of the night. It's kind of nice, actually.

Yesterday after school, Kelsey and I studied in the library for our math test today, and I think I did really well. I won't know until I get it back, but I felt like I flew through it and didn't really have to think much.

Kelsey is busy this weekend, so I'm kind of bummed because we can't hang out. But maybe Rocky and I will do something fun.

I think I just heard him get home from school, so I'm going to go.

"Sup bro? How was school?" Rocky asked, taking his backpack off.

"Good."

"That's good. How are you feeling today?"

"Today's an ok day."

"Good. How do your arms feel?"

"Still sore."

"Can I see?"

I got up and went over to Rocky. He's been making sure my cuts stay clean and wrapped up.

"Ok. You should shower tonight and put on clean bandages before you go to sleep. I can help you do it later."

"Ok."

"So do you have any plans with Kelsey? I would've thought you'd be over her house right now."

"No, she's busy this weekend... Her parents are doctors, and they're going to some convention thing, so they left right after she got home from school."

"Why are they taking Kelsey?"

"They're hoping she'll want to go to college to become a doctor too."

"Oh, I get it..."

"She doesn't want to though. So... I think it's a waste of time. She'll probably have fun though. She seems to make the best out of everything."

"Well since you're not doing anything with her, we can hang out this weekend. Have some one on one time and stuff. We haven't really hung out much."

"Yeah, besides this week..."

"I know. I just want to make sure you're ok."

"I know... I'm actually feeling a little better than I was before, I think."

"Oh, good! Why do you think you feel better?"

"I don't know... I felt better when I met Kelsey and stuff, and now I feel better with you. So maybe I just feel better because I'm not so isolated anymore."

"Yeah, that's probably it."

"Thanks for caring about me, by the way."

"Riker, we're brothers. Of course I care about you."

"I know, but it didn't really seem like it before. You just wanted to hang out with everyone else."

"Well yeah, because all you did was sit in our room for hours. Everyone else wanted to play outside or play video games."

"I guess it's sort of my fault for isolating myself..."

"Whatever. It's ok. I'm hungry. Let's go get a snack!"
