Chapter 11
Later...
Riker POV"Is it big enough yet?" I asked.
"Almost," Kelsey said.
We were raking up a giant pile of leaves so we could jump in it.
I raked some more leaves, and then laid down in the grass.
"Ok, it's ready," Kelsey said.
She walked over and sat down beside me.
"Are you tired again?" She asked.
I nodded. I feel like I could fall asleep.
Kelsey laid down next to me and took my hand. She intertwined our fingers.
"I wish I could make you feel better," Kelsey said.
I squeezed her hand tight.
"You do. I feel better with you than I do at home."
"I know, but you're not all the way better with me."
I sighed, and turned to look at her.
"I'm ok. I promise I am."
Kelsey dropped my hand and sat up. I sat up too.
"Can we jump in the leaves now?" I asked.
"Yup. If you're not too tired."
"I'm not. Teach me how."
She took my hand again, and we walked a few feet away from the leaf pile.
"Ready?" She asked.
I nodded.
"Go."
We both took off running and jumped into the leaves. I lost her hand, and I was completely buried. I dug myself out, and found Kelsey.
"Fun?" Kelsey asked.
I nodded, smiling.
"You really don't do stuff like this with your siblings?"
"No. I just kind of... isolate myself in my room. My mom doesn't like it, and she tries to make me play with them, but I just tell her I have homework and stuff."
"Why don't you want to hang out with them?"
"Because there's 5 of us. And usually we play things where you need to be on teams. And nobody picks me as their teammate because my two little brothers are close with each other, and my sister is close with my other brother, so I'm the odd one out, and I'm tired of being that."
I felt my face go red.
"Well... At least we know something else that's making you unhappy."
I felt my eyes fill with tears, so I covered my face with my hands.
"Hey. It's ok. It's all part of the process," Kelsey said, hugging me.
I clung onto her tight and just calmed down. I'm so sick of crying.
"Can we go up to the treehouse?" I asked.
"Yeah."
I went up first, and laid down on a bunch of blankets.
"I wish I could live up here. And I wish I didn't have to go to school."
"I know."
I pulled a blanket over myself and curled up.
"Aw, Riker..."
She started rubbing my back.
"You know how you said to tell you when I felt like cutting, and you would talk me through it?" I asked.
