Chapter 14
Later...
Riker POV
"Riker?"
"What?"
Kelsey had taught me how to make one of those friendship bracelet things. I was trying to make one for her right now.
"I think it's starting to snow."
"Really!?"
"Yeah. Look out the window."
I looked towards the window and I could see a few snowflakes falling from the sky.
"Yay!"
"How's the bracelet going?"
"It's... ok, I think."
Kelsey came over and looked at it.
"You're doing good. Just try to make the knots as tight as possible. It'll look better that way."
"Ok."
I kept working on the bracelet. Kelsey was untangling a bunch of her necklaces.
"Why are they all in a knot?" I asked.
"Because I almost never wear necklaces, so I guess they just got tangled."
"Why don't you wear necklaces?"
"I don't know. None of them have... meaning. You know? Like they look nice and stuff, but none of them have anything special about them."
"Oh..."
All of a sudden, I heard something downstairs.
"My brother's probably home," Kelsey said.
"Oh..."
A minute later, Lucas appeared in her doorway.
"Hey. It's snowing out," Lucas said.
"We know. Isn't it pretty?" Kelsey asked.
"Yeah. Is Riker staying over?"
"Yup."
"Sounds good. I'll leave you guys to it."
"Are you sure he likes me?" I whispered.
"Yeah. Of course he does. Otherwise he wouldn't be cool with you being over all the time."
"Oh..."
"Believe me. He likes you. And he's glad we're friends."
"Why?"
"I have friends and stuff, but I've never really had a best friend, so I guess he's happy that I have a best friend."
"Oh... Well I'm happy to have a best friend too!"
"I'm going to change into my pjs. Be right back."
After Kelsey got changed, I decided to get changed too. It felt better to be in comfier clothes.
It was kind of weird to me how we didn't even really have to be doing much of anything. I was making a bracelet, and Kelsey was untangling necklaces. But I felt so good. I could relax, and I had nothing at all to worry about.
I was glad she knew my secrets because I didn't have to worry when I was around her. And I trusted her.
"How do I end the bracelet?" I asked.
Kelsey came over to me and sat down.
"People do it different ways. But what I do, is I just make a knot. And then cut off the rest of the string, but leave enough so you can tie it around someone's wrist."
"Gotcha..."
I tied a knot and cut off the excess.
"Kelsey?"
"What?"
"I made this for you."
"Aw, Riker."
She held out her wrist, so I tied it on beside the one that matched mine. And then she hugged me.
"Riker, look! It's snowing harder!"
I looked towards the window. Sure enough, it looked like a snowstorm now.
"Do you want to go downstairs and stand in the snow for a second?" Kelsey asked.
I nodded, smiling.
"Ok, let's put on shoes so our feet don't freeze."
I pulled on my shoes, and Kelsey did the same. I put on one of my sweatshirts too.
"Ready?" Kelsey asked.
"Yeah, let's go!"
She took my hand in hers, and we both went downstairs. She opened the front door, and we stepped out. Her porch light went on, and it made all the snow sparkle. There was about an inch on the ground already, and tons more was falling from the sky.
"It's so pretty," I said, looking up at the sky and spinning around.
Kelsey laughed.
"What?" I asked.
"Cute."
She took both of my hands in hers. And she pulled me a bit closer to her.
"And before you ask, yes, you really are cute, and I do mean it," Kelsey said.
Her eyes were sparkling just like all of the snowflakes. I sort of got lost for a second, just staring at her. She had snowflakes in her hair and on her face. She was beautiful.
Kelsey pulled me even closer, and before I knew it, she kissed me.
