The sun was setting, and yet you woke up once again in a place you didn't recognize. You felt warm sand against your back, and a phantom feeling of being engulfed in vines. You panic, jerking yourself upright, looking around sporadically. You were on the same beach as before, just further up shore, out of the water. You stood up, darting your gaze all around you, readying yourself for a potential fight. You had no idea what happened earlier, but you knew that little girl you met must of had something to do with it, just not entierly sure how or why.
To your misfortune, the sun was showing itself to you for its final moments that day, and you didn't want to take on any challenges in the blanket of darkness that was about to cascade over the supposed island. Your eyes locked on to your ship, and you began trudging your way over to it, planning to spend the night there.
---
Morning came, and the day's brand new light awoke you. You were pleased to still be where you fell asleep the night prior, but something was... different about the boat. It was obvious: the whole ship— what was left of it, anyway— was buried in vegitation. You were even lifted in the air on a massive leaf, while vines and branches hugged themselves tightly along the wooden frame on the deserted beach.
Obviously surprised, you steadily crawled and looked down off the leaf to the deck below; there was that jungle girl again. She was sitting upright, holding your spear beside her with both hands, as her sleepy little head leaned on its wooden post for support.
Looking down at her from above, you try hatching out a plan:
Is that girl creating these plants— making them grow?
You question to yourself.
If that's true, and she threatened to kill me, then...
Your mind trailed off.
Would it be best if I killed her first?
You morally pondered.
No! She's just a child!
You audibly grunted as you leaned back on the leaf.
Your sudden, small noise was enough to alert the jungle child, and she snapped her neck up and glared your way with wide, empty eyes. Even though she was now clearly awake, you didn't notice it, and up and decided to shimmy your way down the stalk of your natural platform you were stuck on. Lowering your body down, your toes successfully touched the greenery covered deck, letting the rest of you fall with them. You began tip toing away, but then you heard a blood curdling scream.
The sudden sound made you stumble forward, and you felt something familiar wrap around your ankles once again. This time, the vines that had taken ahold of you lifted you upsidedown into the air, forcing you to look in the little girl's way. You saw her leaning into a stance with her right arm out towards you as she continued screeching at the top of her lungs.
"Please!" you begged, trying to tear the growing vine from your body to no avail "Just let me go, I didn't mean to crash land on your island, I swear!"
"No!" the child yelled, tears in her eyes "You have bad intentions, and I can't trust you!"
"I'll leave, but my boat-" you try to keep explaining, but your excuses fall on deaf ears.
"Humans are scary, and you need to stay off my island!"
"Humans?" your entire body from below your neck was now wrapped up and immobilized.
You saw the fear in the girl's eyes, and understood her right after she revealed her worries.
"I-I'm not human!" you confess.
The girl looked confused, finally resting her arm and letting you hang in the air.
"You're an odd liar," she gritted her teeth.
"It's no lie, I used to be the goddess of oceans before, but I lost my powers!"
The girl tilted her head "Goddess of oceans?"
"Yeah! I was able to control the sea just like how you're controling these plants! But I had to give my powers to someone in need, so I don't have them anymore."
Her face looked like her brain was still processing what you said "I don't-"
"Listen, without my powers, my boat was destroyed in a storm. I just wanted to run away from someone-" you began to feel choked up, hoping it was only because of hanging upsidedown for so long "I just got away from everything and I thought I could do it by myself, but I couldn't!"
You were visibly crying now, blubbering like a baby. Meanwhile, the little girl looked up awkwardly at you, unsure how to react to your breakdown.
"I don't know what I'm doing, maybe I just made a mistake?" you slowly felt yourself lower in the air. You opened your sorrowful eyes as the vines were lowering you softly onto the ground, flat on your back.
You heard the light steps of the girl approaching you, and you glanced up to see her face while you laid in a submissive looking position on the deck.
"Is this 'someone' bad?" she asked ernestly.
Hesitantly, you bit your lip, thinking about Sinbad "No, but-"
"Why did you run?" She interrupted.
"I-I don't know, I was scared? Everything was happening so fast, and-" you suddenly remembered you were opening up to a wild child with scary superpowers, and held in more emotions for hers and your sake "I guess I just didn't feel like myself anymore, and I needed to runaway to find who I was again".
You both were silent, only hearing the sounds of the waves splashing along the beach, and the calls of sea birds.
"You don't have to leave," the girl mumbled "you can stay".
You sniffle, a little confused by her change of thought— not set on how convincing you were.
"If you are who you say you are, it sounds like you've been hurt by humans too," the girl's voice was quiet and scratchy as she sympathized with you.
Leaning up and turning toward her as you wiped the tears from your eyes, you cleared your throat and nodded "Thank you".
You sat there quietly, attempting to compse yourself, as the girl slowly starts walking away and jumps down to the beach from the ship.
"Hey, where are you going?" you innocently asked.
She glares back at you, clearly not completely trusting you yet "Foraging. I can't waste more time talking to you".
"Wait!" you stand up, trying to get anymore dignity that you might have lost "Do you have a name? What do I call you?"
She impatiently drills her toes into the sand and sighs "Zarah, that's my name".
"Zarah," you smile kindly her way "It's very nice to meet you. You can call me Y/N".
Zarah uncomfortably looks away, unsure of the socializing you're forcing her to be apart of "Whatever".
You watch as she begins to trudge back into the jungle, feeling a bit embarrassed and vulnerable as you stand on your awful looking boat. You see that the girl, Zarah, had left your spear behind. Whether it be purposeful or an accident, you were pleased that she trusted you enough to leave it there— or maybe she no longer saw you as a threat? Either or, now you were now armed, and very hungry!
