Chapter Eighteen
Jungkook's heavy steps rang through the hidden alley he found a second ago before dropping his weight next to a big green dumpster. He grimaced at the smell, plugging his nose for a moment. He unplugged it as Rina's light steps came in and she took a seat right next to him. Of course she was following him, there was no way she was going to let this stupid misunderstanding ruin their friendship.
He frowned while she looked around before making a face, "Good place, Kook." She quietly commented, obviously trying to light up the mood but not succeeding. It actually made the boy angrier. "I'm sure Mr.Kim has better places." He rolled his eyes, turning his body away from Rina's but not finding enough strength to actually go away from her. "What's up with you and Mr.Kim?" Rina repeated her question, this time making sure her voice was at a rather quiet tone. Jungkook groaned, throwing his head back and pulling on his hair as he let his head hang again. "You should answer that," He rolled his eyes, looking over with a scowl as Rina giggled. "You remind me of myself with those eye rolls." He didn't want to, he really didn't, but he smiled. The smile slightly melting the sudden anger away, not all of it, but a little. He just couldn't resist his lips stretching as Rina's giggle intoxicated his mind. "Stop." He shook his head, doing his best not to go back into a smile.
Rina listened, forming her lips into thin line to stop herself. "For how long?" Jungkook closed his eyes as he was pained by the question itself- he was terrified he would break once the answer comes out. But he was only starting to get the melted anger back as Rina confusedly tilted her head, "How long what?" She questioned, genuine confusion seeping through her features. Jungkook only groaned, did he really have to draw it out for her?! Rina slumped back and with a pout displayed on her fluffy lips, she pondered. "Ah!" Her back straightened as she thought of something, "Is it about Mr.Kim?" Upon receiving a curt nod from the male next to her, she gave herself a pat on her own back.
"How long have you two..," Jungkook trailed off, biting his lower lip. He took a second to recollect himself from falling into stutter, "been together?" He felt his heart hurt, painfully slowly shattering before the feeling of it falling into his gut. Rina muffled a laugh but mentally slapped herself as she realized he was serious. "I'm not in a romantic relationship with him, if that's what you mean." Rina lightly pushed the boy's shoulder. "But you are in some kind of relationship?" Jungkook quickly questioned, making sure before picking his shattered heart and gluing it back together- in his head. Rina nodded before explaining, "My dad has been friends with him for literal cen-" she shook her head and corrected herself, "for a few years." Jungkook picked up on her mistake, and not being able to shake the feeling of being lied to- his lips turned into a deep frown.
"Rina, please don't lie to me. I'm not that stupid to fall for it." His eyes met with the ground. Rina didn't know what to do, she felt trapped. If she told him the truth, he would either freak out or think she's lying. But if she lied once again, it may break their friendship and she didn't want that. Basically, she felt that if she did, or said, anything- she would ruin everything. But she gulped, "Promise not to freak out or tell anyone?" She had a thumb war by herself as she didn't dare to look anywhere but her fingers- trying to convince herself she's speaking to a wall. "Or run from me." She added as she saw Jungkook nod from the corner of her eye. She mimicked his action as she inhaled deeply.
"I'm, um," Her eyes flickered from her fidgeting fingers to the ground as she hummed, "not exactly, how do I say it- human?" She nervously chuckled, not wanting to meet Jungkook's confused gaze. He shook his head before standing up, "Now you're just making a fool out of me." Jungkook's voice was barely above a whisper as he tried to walk away once again but Rina stopped him. She grabbed his wrist, taking his wince that was out of surprise, and slid her hand down to fit into his before lacing their fingers then lightly pulling him back down to sit next to her. He was shocked to say at least, his cheeks warmed up to the point of it almost being taken as a pretty bad fever. "You promised." Rina pouted, taking his overheated face into her hands to make him look at her.
"I'm a vampire." Rina quickly confessed before Jungkook could say anything. She felt as if a giant rock was lifted from her chest. "Rina, I just said that I'm not stupid." Jungkook shook his head, keeping their fingers laced together and not trying to go away. "Yeah, that's why I'm not lying!" Rina defended herself, trying to remove her hand from his but he didn't let it happen. "Vampires don't exist." Jungkook chuckled, starting to find Rina's confession cute and not believing it.
"You're saying that I don't exist?" Rina placed a hand to her chest, acting offended. Of course that she wasn't, she found his reaction rather interesting. "Don't worry, this phase will go by soon." He reassuringly spoke while tapping her shoulder. Rina laughed one of those loud, screaming-like laughs.
"Sure it will, want me to take you home?" Rina smirked, coming up with an idea to make him believe. Jungkook was hesitant but nodded, he thought it would be great to tease her a bit about what she said. "Get on my back." Rina got up, crouching a bit and waiting for Jungkook's weight. "Rina, I'll break you." Jungkook laughed, patting her back instead of getting on. "Kook, I'm strong enough to break a brick, why couldn't I carry you?" Jungkook nodded to himself as she made a pretty valid point. Wanting to know how long her joke was going to be, he jumped on the girl's back and wrapped his long legs around her waist. He suddenly giggled while putting his arms around her neck, "You're so tiny, my legs can make like 5 circles around your waist." He wiggled his legs, making Rina laugh but still hold onto his thighs so he doesn't fall.
Once she straightened her back, she adjusted his body to comfortably hang. "Ready? Now don't scream, we don't want any attention." Rina started walking, starting to run at an inhuman speed once she felt him nod. She heard a light screech from the boy as soon as she started.
Within a second, she stopped and let the dazed Jungkook get his shit together on her back. "Believe me now?" She slowly started letting go of him as he got down to his feet. He looked up and was met with the apartment he lives in. "What the-" He cut himself off, his heart starting to pump in excitement, "I'm friends with a freakin'vampire."
