My cheeks still flushing from embarrassment, Alessio and I went down to the dining room, if you can even call it that.

I noticed that Margaret had left some food for us. The aroma emitting from the kitchen was a strong, alluring one.

'She must have cooked some Mexican cuisine' I thought to myself as my stomach grumbled a bit too loudly. I shifted my glance to Alessio to see if he had heard me and sure enough his gaze was on the dining table, but that stupid smirk on his face made it clear he had heard it.

Great, as if I didn't embarrass myself enough today.

As I ate, my mind kept going back to one of the files I had found in the pile I have been organising. It had something to do with werewolves being reported as 'missing'. It wasn't any of my business really and yet I wanted to ask Alessio, but i haven't found the right time yet to bring it up.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" Alessio's rugged voice quickly snapped me out of my thoughts

"My food."

"Nice try, but you haven't touched your plate since you sat down. Now tell me what's going on in that pretty head of yours."

"So you've been watching me then?" I asked, trying to hide my smile.

"What type of mate would I be if i wasn't?" Alessio spoke those words with such intensity that I was caught off guard.

Ignoring his comment, I shifted in my seat, making sure to avoid his unwavering gaze. I finally asked the question I've been meaning to ask this entire night.

"I found a file on a case of missing werewolves, a few were from your pack so I was wonder-"

"You don't need to worry about that" Alessio declared in a dismissive tone.

"It's just that I'm curious. Why would anyone go missing? After all this is such a secluded area, could it have been an intentional kidnapping or-

"Enough."

After that we ate in silence, the only sound that emitted from the room was the clattering of cutlery. I really didn't know what to do.

God, why did I even ask?

"It's not just werewolves; vampires, witches, nymphs, sirens, those missing seemed to have dropped off the earth, not even my best trackers could trace their scents. 53 in total have gone missing, 4 from our territory."

"I'm .. sorry, it wasn't my place to ask," I spoke quietly. I felt like an idiot for bringing this topic up, it was clearly a sensitive issue and I practically interrogated him.

"Eat, you haven't taken one bite." He muttered.

I looked down at my plate and began to take small bites off of the burrito. I didn't say anything after his comment, in fact I barely looked at him throughout the duration of the whole meal. If I spoke, I probably would have said something stupid again.

"Mi amor, there's no need to be so quiet - it's only natural to be curious. I'm not accustomed to the whole concept of mates just yet, I'm used to shouting orders but of course I can't do that with you. Ask away."

My posture relaxed at his words, it was at these moments where he would speak softly to me - and not in that commanding Alpha tone, that I feel included in the pack; but I know I have to be careful to not get attached to him, I won't let it happen. Otherwise I would have to pay for the consequences. All I have to do is last one month.

"D-do you have any suspects?" I lifted my head, and was met with his gaze.

"The hunters were a dead end. The only other possibilities could have been a vampire, witch or one of our own, a werewolf. One thing's for sure, they aren't working alone, supernaturals have been reported missing all the way from the Southern Territory."

"Well that's not a lot of suspects," I replied sarcastically, his lips quirked up in a small smile at my comment.

"I'd like to see you do better" He clearly meant it as a joke but I couldn't be more serious in my next sentence.

"Let me" I say as I get up from my seat, taking my now empty plate to the kitchen sink, he too following behind me.

"I was joking."

"Well, I'm not. If I'm going to be living here for a month, let me be useful." I say, as I begin to wash my plate.

"It's not happening Reynah, this isn't up for debate" He growled, his eyes darkening, and the playful look in his eyes is no longer there.

"You're my mate for goddesses sake, not my dad. Alessio, all I do here is eat and sleep I'm not a fucking dog!" I yelled, but his eyes never wavered.

Alessio stayed silent for a moment. "Technically-"

"Not the time!"

I could tell Alessio was growing frustrated with my stubbornness. He ran his fingers through his hair, leaving a few stray hairs to fall in front of his eyes.

"Look we're both tired and I have to attend a meeting tomorrow, let's just go to sleep." Alessio said, as he guided me up to my bedroom.

"Alessio, I may not be a member of this pack, but I genuinely want to help." I say, as I entered my bedroom.

"We'll talk about this tomorrow."

"You better not be saying that just to shut me up because -"

"No mi amor, it's not, I promise we will talk about this tomorrow. Confía en mí, tengo mejores maneras de callarte.(Trust me, I have better ways of shutting you up). He winked, leaving me confused as fuck. I couldn't be bothered to ask him to translate because I knew he wouldn't have answered me anyway, so instead I wished him a goodnight and entered my bedroom.

I shut the door and quickly changed into my pyjamas, before brushing my teeth. All I wanted to do was go to sleep.

I turned off the lights, and headed towards the bed until the shattering sound of glass reached my ears. Glass was thrown across the room as I felt something shoot past me. A scream left my mouth as I quickly backed up against the side wall.

The door was suddenly thrown open, relief washed over me as I made out Alessio's figure through the darkness. He quickly turned on the lights. A murderous aura emitted from him but it didn't stop me from running towards him, encasing my arms around his torso. My entire body was shaking and I could sense how tense Alessio was. He slowly wrapped one of his arms around me and I buried my face into his chest.

"What happened?" He questioned, scanning the room.

"An arrow shot through the window."
