"So it's true, when all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love." - E.A. Bucchianeri, Brushstrokes of a Gadfly
Third POV
A few minutes ago
"I need your assistance" Alessio shortly stated, he hated the fact how he had stooped so low to go to Dimitri for aid but he pushed his pride aside knowing it was for the betterment of his pack, and his mate.
Dimitri smirked, his green eyes glinted mischievously taking delight in his old acquaintance's rare vulnerability.
"Must be big for you to waltz in here without so much as a call. Take a seat"
Dimitri's study was large with a bookshelf lined with books in inscriptive languages Alessio didn't care to read. The room was dark, the one window that was the only access to light was shielded by the thick black curtains. Alessio thought the study perfectly fit Dimitri. Dark.
"I request an alliance with your clan and my pack." Alessio simply explained.
"Your well aware that I don't do alliances, I don't trust muts." Dimitri said before sitting down on the large leather seat behind his desk, propping up his feet on the large desk.
Alessio growled at the demeaning term but held his wolf at bay, he caught onto the game Dimitri was playing but he refused to get trapped. Dimitri was known for his manipulative and powerful moves, all the more reason that Alessio needed him on his side.
"I'm well aware but as you can tell I'm limited in my options, I have every pack in this country monitored and yet I can't find anything. Whatever we're up against, it is not a werewolf."
"And you believe it's a vampire. Sorry to shatter your pathetic assumptions but my clan is under my control and I haven't ordered them to do such petty tasks"
"That's your clan but what about the other pillars?"
"Why don't you go ask them? My next meeting with the pillars isn't for another month and I highly doubt you have the patience for that." Dimitri was beginning to get bored with the conversation.
"You think I haven't tried, you didn't think you were my first choice did you?" Alessio taunted.
"Now you're just hurting my feelings" Dimitri said mockingly, placing his hand on his chest.
Before Alessio could retort, a foreign emotion of fear abruptly attacked him. What concerned him though was that it wasn't his own.
Alpha! Luna and I are cornered by a pack of rogues somewhere in Kilentra Forest!
A powerful roar ripped through Alessio's chest and Dimitri rose out of his seat in response.
Silently fuming, Alessio attempted to calm the raging beast inside him that was ready to shift.
What are your coordinates?
Somewhere north-east of Dimitri's clan
Protect your Luna with your life until I get there Alessio instructed through the mind link.
Alessio's wolf attempted to claw his way out, wanting to shift so he could find his mate. The foreign feeling of fear was still prevalent but this time it was coming from Alessio; terrified that he would lose his mate. The fear, however, was nothing in comparison to the raging storm that was currently taking place inside him, his claws already out.
Dimitri looked at Alessio warily, not taking a liking to the idea of a rampant Alpha wreaking havoc in his clan.
"There's a pack of rogues in your territory and they've attacked my mate."
At that, Dimitri's interest peaked. He noticed Alessio's raging inner turmoil with his wolf who he presumed wanted to find his mate.
"Sire, a pack of rogues breached our borders a few minutes ago" Dimitri assessed the elder that had just entered his study with the late news.
Dimitri rolled his eyes at the vampire's incompetence and signaled him to leave the room.
"Let's move" In a flash, Dimitri sped out of the room, his figure a blur.
Alessio snarled, finally able to free his beast and find his mate. The sound of bones breaking could be heard as Alessio shifted into his large black wolf, his eyes red and ready to see blood.
Dimitri's P.O.V
I sped through the forests, the trees a blur. I looked back to Alessio who had turned into his wolf, only a few meters behind me. I ran towards 'Kilentra Forest', it was a place I had forbidden the vampires in my territory to go, not needing a dispute between the wolves and the vampires again.
'Kilentra Forest' was the border between my territory and Alpha Alaric's territory, he was a stupid and incompetent Alpha with an inferiority complex. But I can't be too mad, he was smart to be cautious of me.
As I turned a corner I halted my speed to take in the scene before me. Silas and who I assumed to be Alessio's mate were surrounded by some flea infested dogs but what caught my attention were the half-dead beings behind them, some of them being vampires.
As I took a step forward a scream erupted that had me frozen. Usually, I take delight in the misery of others, others see it as sadistic I merely see it as the nature of a vampire. However, this scream caused a feeling of dread to overwhelm me.
Juxtaposed to the vile emotion a magnificent scent clouded my senses and my emerald eyes shifted pitch black.
I knew what that scent meant, I had been waiting for a millennium for it. Waiting for my beloved.
My head snapped towards the source of the scent, there I saw a rogue biting down on a girl. My beloved. I saw red as he made a move, about to rip her arm out.
