I stared at the tall building. This is where it's being held, the auditions. I practised until late yesterday, I barely got any sleep. But, that doesn't matter, I can sleep after auditions.
Chris and I walked into the building and took the elevator up to the twenty-third floor.
We wrote our names down for the auditions and was told to wait in a different room. This is so nerve-wracking. I poured myself a cup of water, my hands are getting sweaty.
Soon, Chris's name was called and he left the room with one of the staffs. After Chris, it must be me.
Sike!
Not after Chris, my name was called even before Chris finished. I followed the staff member into a room, I thought Chris would be in there but he wasn't. They must've taken me into a different room. It was a dance room, it had mirrors on three of the walls. I stood in the middle, heart beating too fast.
"So, Felix, what's your date of birth?" A man that sat at the desk asked me.
"Fif-fifteenth of Sept-September, year 2000." Goddammit, why did I have to stutter?
"Okay Felix, show me what you got."First, I did a rehearsed choreography, a dance.
I did my best and tried not to fuck up as I've already done so. The music started playing, it was slow and peaceful, so I made my moves as smooth as possible. Then, it had a transition from peaceful to aggressive and fast-paced. My moves became sharp and aggressive almost immediately. On the outside, it might look like I'm doing really well, which I am, but on the inside, I'm having a panic attack. I almost missed one of the moves because I was so nervous and almost forgot it.
After the choreo dance, I did a freestyle dance. A random pop song that the staff members picked started playing and I immediately started dancing. I did a variety of moves that suited the mood of the song and I'm familiar with.
To be honest, I think the freestyle was harder than the choreo. When doing the choreo at least I know what to do next. Freestyling? After one move, you have to think of another as quick as you can.
Last but not least, the rap. Like the two dances, I did it to the best of my abilities.
I hope that's enough.
I was brought out back to the lounge room and the tenseness that I didn't even know was there rushed out of my body.
I saw Chris sitting on a sofa next to a potted plant near the back. I walked towards him and plopped myself down next to him. "So, how did it go for you?" I asked him.
"To be honest I don't think it wasn't that bad, but I don't know if it'll be enough to make it through," he said calmly, "what about you?"
"Uhh, I don't know, I think it was okay though."After a couple of minutes later, a female staff member came into the room, "we will contact you within the next four weeks if your audition was successful. If you do not get any messages within the next four weeks, I just simply means you didn't make it. You can decline the offer if you do get accepted," she said, "thank you for your time today, you may leave now if you wish," with that she left the room.
Do I hope I make it though?
~~~~
I don't even know what I want anymore. Do I want to go or not? If I get a message that I was accepted, do I decline or not?
"Felix, you're going to have to make a choice soon, you've only got maximum four weeks," Chris said as we walked to the boba tea store that was just down the road.
Chris ordered his usual tea which was a regular iced milky Jasmine tea with standard sugar and pearls, and I ordered my usual, a regular iced milky Oolong tea also with standard sugar and pearls.
Boba tea lowers my level of stress.
We walked to the bus stop and that was where we parted ways, his bus came first and mine was right after his. I hopped on and tapped my card. I walked to the back and sitting there was Lilliana. What is she doing here? It's the weekends. Nevertheless, it brought a smile to my face.
"What are you doing here?" she asked me. Now that she asked me that, I just realised I never told her about auditions. Should I just lie then? "I was just hanging around the mall with Chris." That wasn't a lie, that was just not all the information.
When the bus arrived at her stop she hopped off the bus leaving me thinking again, should I move to Korea or not if I get accepted?
~~~~
"Hey, dad," I said into the phone.
"Sorry, I haven't been calling. I'm really busy recently and so is your mother," he said with a chuckle.
"That's okay, are you two sleeping well?"
"Not really, but it's okay. Anything interesting happening back home?"
"I attended the auditions today."
"Oh really?! Did you do well?"
"I think I did pretty well but I don't know if it'll be enough for them to accept me as a trainee."
"I'm sure you'll be accepted."
"Chris also auditioned."
"Oh, is that so? I didn't know he had an interest in music?"
"Well, I didn't either," I laughed.
"What time is it in Sydney now? Almost half-past ten, you should get some sleep son."
"When are you guys coming back?"
"Soon, I promise."
"You promised me okay?"
"Yeah, okay, okay, go to sleep now."
"Good night."
"Night," he said and hung up.I hope they come back sooner.
I closed my eyes trying to sleep but I just couldn't. I fidgeted and moved around my bed but I just couldn't fall asleep. I always go back to those questions.
Should I move to Korea or not? Should I be a trainee or not? Should I decline or not?
Should I break up with Lilliana or not?
