Making her eat all the food he prepared, night finally arrived and so did a crease of tension on her face. She became more quiet.
Neil held her hand firmly and asked "What happened?" "Mowgu. I am tensed about him. Would he have eaten something?" She replied on the verge of tears. Motherhood has really changed her. She never cried unnecessarily. Neil wiped her unshed tears, "Where exactly has he went?" He asked. "An adventure camp." She replied in a small tone. Neil started to laugh hardly while Avni looked at him confusingly. "Here I am tensed and you are laughing?" She raised her voice a bit making a cute pout. How badly he wanted to peck her cute pout
But he resisted himself. "Arey you said na that Mowgu is totally like me?" He asked, still laughing. She nodded slightly. " Okay, so this is the story when I used to be innocent." Avni thought Was he ever innocent? "How is the problem solved?" She asked. "Bas then, camp is not a problem. And the food at camp is especially not a problem. When I used to go at the camp, I used to trouble the chaperones until they gave me the food. At times I used to climb on their backs and made them go insane. And that. Was. The secret of my success." He said holding his collar. "How was that your success?" She asked crossing her arms. Neil pulled her cheeks. "I was restricted or you can say prohibited to go to the camp after 8th class. So I used to sneak around in the school while the others enjoyed, you know troubling teachers, switching off their lights, and they used to scream madly like they'd seen a ghost." "Neil if he does this-" "He'll become successful like me one day." He cut her off, not letting go of his collar. Avni rolled her eyes at his stupidity. She joined her hands and prayed for his son's well being and also that he does not do the successful stuff Neil was talking about. Neil was just admiring her. She has become so cute. Neil stop yourself. She opened her eyes to see a smiling Neil. Suddenly the lights went off.
Avni stared around to see what just happened. Panic started to take over her. Neil realised how much she was afraid of the dark and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I'll just go and check." Neil said politely while patting her cheeks. He was about to get up and go when she held his hand. Even in the dark he could see her tears and her shaking her head. "Nothing will happen to me and you. Hm?" Saying this he went away.
Neil searched for the MCB switch in the house with the help of the phone's flashlight. He stopped abruptly sensing a movement behind him. He turned sharply to see no one. Must have been my imagination. Find it quickly and go back to her. He took many turns stumbling into many things with many stops for he sensed something bad. Suddenly he heard something that made his heart stop. Avni was screaming on the top of her voice. Neil hurried in the direction but stopped again as her screams died. Has someone taken her? He was dreaded by this thought. He gulped the lump formed in his throat. He reached her room and flashed around. "Avni where are you?" He asked to find nothing but he could sense her presence nearby. He reached in front of the mirror and gasped as he saw a note stuck to it along with some. "Bl..Blood?" He whispered in a small voice. The note read
I told you to vacant the house. Bear the concequences.
He looked at the mirror. He spotted a shadow being dragged away behind him. Just as he turned, the shadow vanished but he followed the trace of blood stains and his instinct. He reached the kitchen and peeped inside. Neil took out his gun he always kept for emergency. The police department had allowed him to do so. He could still hear her muffled pleas. He fired at the dark corner and advanced. He knew the bullet had shot someone as it did not clang against any appliance. As he moved forward, someone went beside him so close that Neil thought they almost touched each other. He could now actually see the blood getting more and more dense indicating that he was close to Avni. Then finally his flashlight caught her.
His eyes widened at the sight of her head bleeding badly, her mouth taped so she was unable to say anything. Her blue eyes fluttered hardly. She was still concious. Neil lurched and hugged her tightly, still being in the corner. More gunshots awaited them, towards them. Neil shielded her with his own back and carried her, still being low. He finally found a place behind a fridge and fired back covering them time to time. He traveled along with her outside in the hall until his back rubbed along a switch and the light came back. He could see a man running out of the window. Neil tried to chase that person but could not move as the weight on his chest became heavier. Two things he knew: She wasn't shot. :She was also not in her senses.
