A bad omen, the promise

Avni was continuously screaming for Mowgli to get up. But he was there, lying with his eyes closed, blood flowing from his arm. "Av...avni we'll take him to t...the hos... hospital." Neil said, trying to touch her. She nodded.

Neil was about to pick him up but Avni stopped him. "Don't you try to touch my son." She shouted, her eyes bloodshot. Neil knew she was mad at him for not listening to her before.

He didn't want to waste time so he allowed her to pick him up and hurried into the car.

Avni was trying her level best to stop the bleeding. But with her quivering hands, on seeing her beloved son like this, she couldn't help if a splash of fear of losing him washed her face.

As soon as they reached, they scurried in and Mowgli was took to the operation theatre. Avni just paced to and fro in front of it, wiping her tears.

"Avni calm down, he'll be alright! Please don't stress yourself. It's bad for the child. And mowgli wouldn't like it, would he?" Neil said. "MY SON IS IN THERE GETTING OPERATED, AND I SHALL NOT WORRY? You can be a careless parent, but I can't!" She yelled at him, pushing him away.,

She couldn't decide why was she more angry at him.

For not trusting her?
For believing she was going off?
For being a careless parent?
Or for taking her approach casually?
For not investigating into the matter?

"I'm sorry. I thought she died that day in the fire." Neil said. "I can't live without him Neil.", She whispered back and hugged him tightly, wailing. He rubbed her back. "He'll be fine. He's our son. He's so strong Avni! But please, we cannot afford to put our second child in this ruckus." Neil said, which did calm her a bit.

The doctor came out and Avni rushed to him. "He's alright. Glad, the bullet just scurried past his arm and had not gone too deep." Avni relieved and sat on the floor with a thud. "Ya Allah! Tera lakh lakh Shukar hai!" She whispered and and went in.

Mowgli was lying, awake, but eyes half closed. Avni kissed his forehead. He tried to get up but Avni pressed his arm to keep him down. "Does it hurt?" She asked, kissing the fingers of his unfractured arm.

"This arm." He said, pointing to the slinged one. "I'm sorry." She whispered, burying her face in his hands. "It isn't your fault. You see they know that you love me the most, so.. I'm kinda popular." He chuckled but his words had no effect on her.

She was again responsible for this condition of his. If it hadn't been her, there was no reason for him to get hurt. Just because Mowgli was bound with her, he was getting hurt. And she couldn't control if they got hurt, once more. She was being just what Dayawanti told.

Avni please don't think whatever you are thinking to think to do. Neil thought, recognising her behaviour. He knew what exactly she was thinking.

"Avni you're not it. Don't you remember our promise? We're in this together. Aur abhi to kuch din pehle we fought with mom for this. Then ab kyu Avni? Kyu?" Neil asked a bit louder. "I don't know what you guys are thinking, but mom I will-" Mowgli started but came to a halt seeing Avni sobbing on his arm.

"I'll just ruin your life.." She could muster to say. Mowgli gave a look like
Okay she's serious. And broken. We need to console her and stop whatever she's going to do.

Neil knelt near her, so that he was between his wife and his son. "I can't risk losing you all " She muttered.

Neil put his arm around her, tugging her towards him. "Neil she will ruin us. She'll take he..her rev.. revenge Neil. I'm scared." She said between her sobs.

"Nothing will happen to us Avni." They said.
"Do one thing. You all leave somewhere. Go far. I'll stay here. Sge wants me, fine then. But nothing should happen to you. Just go. Stay away from me." She muttered.

"That's not happening." They shouted together. "Jinx bro." Mowgli chuckled while Neil was like I'm your dad.

But she was blabbering to them to go away.
"I'll fight alone. But you go."
"AVNI." Neil yelled taking her face in his arms.
"Iss baar markar rahenge Avni.
We're in this together. And it's not you alone. Hamara hone wala bacha bhi hai Avni! You're risking its life as well" Neil said while putting her face on his chest.
While she was left to his thoughts, how was she going to battle her.
