—–"Jackson!" You squeal slightly, slapping your husband's arm a couple of times to get his attention.
It takes him a couple of seconds so he can finish up his conversation with April. Then, he looks over, his eyebrows raised.
"Yeah?" He asks, his eyes flickering to your lips for a moment, before they return to your eyes.
"I think it's going to happen," You grin, which makes him roll his eyes.
"You've been saying that for the last two hours," Meredith points out, holding up her vodka and pointing one finger at you, "It's not going to happen."
Rolling your eyes, you stick out your tongue, "Shut up, Mer, just look at her."
Meredith, and probably a couple of other people, looking over at Harriet. She sits in the middle of Meredith's family room area. In one of her hands, she holds a rattle that she'll shake when she feels like it. Her other hand is gripping the carpet.
"Zola was younger than she was when she said her first word," Mer brags a little, which makes you squint your eyes at her.
What is she getting at?
"Harriet is a late bloomer," she finishes.
Not even a second later, a dramatic inhale comes from you, as you slap your hand against your chest, "You take that back."
Jackson chuckles from beside you, he moves his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer slightly.
"We already knew that, Mer," Jackson just barely gets out, before laughing.
You scoot away from Jackson, crossing your arms and huffing playfully, "Rude, both of you."
"Don't worry," Maggie readjusts in her seat, taking a sip of her wine, "Harriet can do it, maybe just not tonight."
"Which would prove the point to the late bloomer thing," Alex comments quietly, you glare at him, and he grins back cheekily.
"Well, I need more liquor," April declares, getting up quickly before she leaves the room.
"Debby Downer," Alex mutters, Maggie slaps his arm, but Alex doesn't even seem phased by it.
"You hit like a girl," He retorts.
"I can hit a lot harder than that if you want me to," Maggie offers, her eyebrows raising.
Alex shrugs, "We'll have to take it outside because I don't think Mer wants us fighting in here."
"Woah, who said anything about fighting?" You ask, laughing lightly.
"As long as it's not in the house," Meredith shrugs.
"Mer!" Maggie chimes, shaking her head scoldingly, "Just drink your tequila and be quiet."
"Mmmm —" Harriet hums, and you look over, along with Jackson.
Slapping your legs excitedly, you readjust, "She's going to say mom! Jackson! Oh my god —"
"She's not going to say anything," Alex comments, you shake your head, "She's just humming."
"Okay, first off, what kind of child fucking hums before they say their first words? And two, she's normal, unlike you,"
He flips you off, so you do it right back at him in response.
"Mmmm..." Harriet tries again, a frustrated look comes over her face, as she huffs out.
"You can do it, darling," You urge, a smile coming over your face, "Go on."
"Say Mer —" Alex laughs, Maggie slaps his arm again.
"Shut up!" She giggles through her teeth.
"Mmmm... mmmer," she finally gets it out, a proud grin is quick to come over her face.
Alex bursts out laughing not even a second later. When your eyes drag over to him slowly, you see that he's hunched over. His entire body is shaking from the laughter, his arms are around his stomach.
"Did she just —" you start to ask when her tiny voice cuts you off.
"Mer!" She cheers, then she pushes herself up, shaking the rattle in her hand.
Everyone— including yourself —roars with laughter. You have to grab onto Jackson because of how hard you're laughing.
"What's so funny?" April asks, the bottle of liquor reaches her lips before it hangs from her hand again. She leans against the doorway, with an unimpressed facial expression, and an eyebrow raised.
Meredith is the only one that can answer her. Mainly because she isn't laughing as hard as you guys are.
"Her first word was 'Mer'."
"Oh," she rolls her eyes, before going back out of the room.
"Alex, I hate you!" You cry, but you're still laughing, "I can't believe you did this to me."
"You're welcome," he chuckles, composing himself, before saying, "Say Alex —"
His own snort cuts the word off slightly, but Harriet gets it nonetheless.
"Al..." she tries, and you cry out in disapproval.
"Harriet, honey, no —"
