The second you got into the car this morning with Jackson, it's like the rubber band snapped. It had been pulling since yesterday, and you're pretty sure Jackson was clueless on what he was doing.

He stretched the band so goddamn far, that it led up to today. Only one day worth of it, and you've exploded, but you're sure he's going to understand it at least a little bit.

Anniversaries are a big thing to mess up on. It would be a different thing if you guys had only been dating—but you're married. And the one year mark is a pretty big milestone, already. So, you, of course, thought he was going to play stupid and reveal that he knew what day it was after all when you two were at the apartment.

But he didn't, the act never showed up, and that was a red flag. Hint after hint and he still was as clueless as ever. It had you mad because he was the one that was so excited in the first place.

Then you found out something, that you were pregnant. Automatically, that was the entire idea, that you would tell him during or after dinner. It would make the entire even happier than it had been originally, and you're sure Jackson would've been excited.

However, he never said anything about the anniversary. He never hinted towards anything. And he didn't take you out to dinner, despite the fact that you had set up everything perfectly. If it had happened, then you would've had your day off today so you two could fawn over the fact that a baby would be on its way.

Imagine the surprise when you told Meredith that you'd be going in, and you needed to vent so you didn't explode on him. Of course, that's all ruined now, since the band snapped, and it left a painful, red mark. A reminder that this is a big deal.

No, you didn't slap him, it's a metaphor.

"Are you mad at me?" Jackson asked, looking over at you when you two had reached the stop light.

"No," you said plainly, arms crossed over your chest as you stared outside.

At the time, you were trying to make it easy for him to stop and give up. And, to get your mind off of it, watching the people walk down the street this early in the morning. The car that stopped next to you, holding an older woman.

"Why are you lying?" He asked, and you sighed in response, then you turned to him.

"Let it go, Jackson,"

It was a warning, the last chance because it had built up enough. The small exchange of him asking you what was wrong, had you fuming a lot more than you'd admit. You're not normally hot-headed like this, but you've been fed up with it for a little too long.

"No, why—"

"Because you forgot our anniversary, yesterday," you snapped, eyes squinted in his direction, waiting for him to respond.

It's his turn to sigh, and you even caught him rolling his eyes slightly, "(Y/n), I was busy all day yesterday,"

"Right," You said, "I highly doubt that Jackson, you couldn't have forgotten about it so easily, especially since you were so excited about it last week,"

When you'd realized you were outside the hospital, you threw the door open, grabbing your bag, and then getting out.

And just like that, without saying another word, you closed the door and went straight into the hospital. Naturally, you didn't see when Jackson, slammed his hands against the steering wheel for a moment, before going to a parking spot.

Jackson hadn't seen you all day after that moment. Mainly because you were purposely avoiding him the entire time. You knew that when you'd see him, that he'd probably confront you, and you'd forgive him.

You didn't want to forgive him just yet, he needs to sit in his grave for a little bit to realize what he's done. The 'busy' excuse had gotten on your nerves because you know it's crap, and he probably did know, deep down somewhere.

Jackson was bothered when he couldn't find you. After your surgery, he waited for you to appear, but all he got was April. She looked tired and a little bit annoyed herself when she saw Jackson standing out there.

"Where's...?"

"She left, ten minutes ago and asked me to finish up," April said simply, before shaking her head when walking by.

And then a couple of your patients that he knew you had, and he went around to see if you were there. And you weren't at any of them. He had a feeling you were behind him the entire time when in reality you were in another hidden surgery.

It all started to build up on Jackson, event after event and eventually, he had enough and went to Meredith. Knowing full well that you had gone to her the second you stepped foot on the hospital floor.

Meredith was standing at a nurses desk, talking to them about one of her patients and what was going to change.

"Meredith!" Jackson calls, making her turn and raise her eyebrows.

She wasn't surprised that Jackson was the one that had been there. She expected him to be there sooner, was all.

Meredith hums, before placing down her clipboard.

"Where's (Y/n)?" He asks.

"Probably avoiding you,"

Jackson sighs, giving up because it was probably useless. He knows the bond you have with Meredith, and you also know how mysterious and cryptic she can be if you asked her to.

Just as Jackson begins to walk away, Meredith asks, "Do you know why she's so upset?"

He turns, "Because I forgot the anniversary?"

She tilts her head slightly, making a face as she shakes her head, "No, that's not it,"

"Then—"

"She was so excited," Meredith says, "Had this whole thing planned out since she's pregnant. And then you didn't take her out, and it ruined it all."

Jackson felt as if his body stopped working. No words came to his dry mouth as his brain turned the word over in his head. Nothing started to work, and his legs felt like jelly.

"Where is she?" He asks softly, looking Meredith in the eyes.

"She should be coming out of OR 2," She says, nodding to Jackson, and he starts off.

When he reaches the door, you're walking out, fixing your hair so it's out of your face. You didn't see Jackson until he was right in front of you, eyes filled with tears and the saddest expression you've ever seen on his face.

"I'm sorry," he says, pulling you into a hug, "I didn't mean—it really was an accident, but I feel worse now knowing that..."

He trails off, not saying it aloud, and you know instantly that Meredith gave it away. You'd be mad at her if it weren't for the fact that you gave her permission to say it if it came down to it.

"You're okay," you say, squeezing him, "Forgiven,"

"We're going out to dinner tonight," he says, not offering any room for an argument.

"Okay, we don't—" you start, but he interrupts you with a kiss.

It takes a moment before he pulls back, looking you in the eyes, "I love you,"

"I love you too,"
