Now Gerard didn't have problems sleeping in basements since he was used to doing it for most-if not all of his life, but he was suddenly beginning to feel cramped in the small space after sleeping in the bunker for what may have been a week or more.
Mikey shared the common feeling, Gerard could tell, but the younger of the Way brothers didn't complain so neither did he. The two hadn't been on good terms since Mikey forced Gerard to wear a mask-and to leave behind his friends as well as the hazel eyed boy known as Frank.
He wouldn't have minded it as much, if not for the tug of familiarity whenever he thought of the small smile Frank gave him when Gerard had accidentally ranted out his thoughts. Frank's smile wasn't anything he had seen before in his life and Gerard would do anything to go back in time so he could see it oncemore.
"Gee." Mikey whispered, tugging the older of siblings away from his thoughts. "What?" Gerard spat. "Do you want?" Mikey shrank back at his brother's tone but sighed a little as he pushed his glasses up. "I'm sorry if I made you mad by leaving but, can you please stop ignoring me? We've been down here for seven days and all you've done is eat, sleep, and make me feel more uncomfortable than I should."
"Well maybe you wouldn't be uncomfortable if we were up there instead of eating away our our lives and pretending all is well down here." Mikey grimaced from Gerard's words and tugged at the loose thread on his shirt. "I don't want you to get hurt. I've been alone for so long-"
"Alone!? For five fucking years I've been traveling from bunker to bunker in hopes that I'd find my brother who mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night. For five years I've thought my only family had died on me-thank you for that, Mikes. Thank you for running off and leaving me to wonder what I did to deserve this hell of a life! Really, I so fucking appreciate it! At least you had Ray and all of them."
"Alone without you." Mikey whispered. "Gee, you were the one who promised to be back and never came. I left the safe house to find you because I thought you abandoned me."
Gerard, feeling a little guilty, bit his bottom lip. "I didn't abandon you, Mikes. I left for a few hours and came back to you gone. If anything, you were the one who abandoned me." Every time they had a conversation such as the one currently, Gerard knew that it never ended well. Most of the time the two brothers kept it at that and stayed silent; Gerard crossing his arms while Mikey sulked in the corner.
Unfortunately it seemed as if Mikey was sick of the games his sibling played and went on with what he was going to say. "You're still my big brother, Gee. You may be an idiot who almost choked himself to death and a moron for leaving me-or whatever happened that night, but I still love you."
"Yeah, you too Mikes. It's just...For years I've been alone and afraid. I've been traveling from safe house to safe house in hopes of finding you tucked safely in one with that goofy smile on your face."
"You think I have a goofy smile?" "Lopsided grin actually, but that's not the point. The point is-I almost died and to think that I could've died without seeing you one more time. All because I was so stupid...It tears me apart. I've been trying to think I was this brave big brother searching for his long lost sibling for years and that one day I'd find you and then we'd live happily ever after and I'll be able to brag about all my adventures but in reality, I'm just a mess up and you're the-"
"You're not a mess up, Gee." But Gerard didn't hear his brother's words at the moment because he was crying and he hated crying in front of people-especially Mikey. "Yes I am! I've been so stupid and you're all the things I strive to be and more. I'm supposed to be the one protecting you and all you've done so far is treat me like I'm the one who needs to be protected. An-And I'm just so weak without you and I make stupid decisions and trust all the wrong people when you're just so smart-"
