Gerard, Frank realized. Was in a daze. The man barely blinked and followed Frank without hesitation into every room they checked. In fact, it seemed as if Gerard had once again left the Earth and retreated to that same place in his mind that he had entered weeks ago.
He still helped look for his brother, of course he did. Though Frank could see the glazed over expression and the way he just...Was there. Frank had to ensure himself multiple times that Gerard was just perhaps frightened or thinking so he wouldn't start assuming that somehow Gee had went back to the place he was buried into for those long two weeks.
Gerard was more fragile than before so Frank knew to be careful with whatever he did or said. He also knew how important it was for Gee to find his brother and how the man was probably in shock from learning that Mikey had been still alive and may or may not still be that way now. Frank was just praying that he didn't get his hopes up too much, as they were already on the second floor and there was still no sign of the younger Way brother.
Small occasional blood stains littered the carpet but Frank noticed they disappeared after a while and following them would be useless as they only led to a room where a man lay still with dried blood coating the rug.
Searching the room came up with nothing and Frank made himself leave the room quicker than the others since Gerard seemed jumpy and was breathing a little faster and heavier than usual. He calmed down as soon as they moved on to the next apartment but Frank still couldn't stop himself from being worried.
Frank checked the next apartment slower than the others to keep an eye on his boyfriend. Gerard had snapped out of whatever trance he had been in and now he was actually exploring rather than trailing behind Frank in a puppy-like manner.
Gerard played around with the kitchen sink; flinching a little when a squeal came from the facets instead of water. He pulled his arm away sharply before leaving the kitchen and heading somewhere else. Frank took his time in the tiled room, shaking his head at the lack of life and slipped through one of the bedroom doors. He oncemore checked the closets and under the bed, calling Mikey's name a few times for good measure.
"Anything?" Gerard shook his head. "Then let's go."
Their exploration continued like that for a while, Gerard checking one room and Frank checking another. They met up and recorded their lack of findings before moving on and repeating the same process. Once or twice Gerard refused to enter a room because of an occasional dead body; Frank allowed him to stand outside while he went through that room and together they'd leave while trying to forget the dead woman cradling her deceased daughter. A bullet through both their skulls.
By the time they were finished, not even a hint of Mikey's whereabouts lay in the building and Frank was stuck sitting beside Gerard; who went on to move as far away from the corpse in the lobby as he could. Frank watched as he every so often sent the dead body an accusing glance before finally backing away and darting into an empty seat.
Frank kept his eyes at the staircase while humming a tune, waiting for Ray and Patrick to arrive with news on Mikey-which, Frank doubted would be good. If Mikey wasn't in the lower floors he knew for certain he wouldn't be in the upper.
"I like that song." Gerard whispered. To Frank, it sounded as if Gee was afraid of speaking loud as to not wake the ghosts of those killed. "Me too. It's my favorite." He didn't really have much to say so continued with the song, this time choosing to sing the actual words rather than hum them. Frank often sang it to Gerard so knew for a fact his boyfriend was familiar with the words he whispered during the night whenever nightmares chose to wake him up.
"Hey you two." Patrick greeted somewhat plainly. "I see you didn't find anything?" He half asked as he looked around the lobby with his flashlight. "A few dead bodies but...No Mikey." Frank responded harsher than he planned. "We need to keep looking for him." Gerard stated fiercely. "He's hurt and probably scared. We need to find him before something happens and-" "Gerard, calm down a little." Ray interrupted with a small chuckle. Frank could tell though, that he was like Frank. They couldn't get their hopes up.
