Frank kept an eye on Gerard throughout the entire walk, making sure nothing bad was going to happen. Sure, Frank was aware that Gerard was immune to the tainted air but that didn't mean he wasn't going to worry about his boyfriend's condition every five minutes.
Needless to say, Frank didn't know what he'd do if suddenly their thoughts proved wrong and Gerard magically gained the sickness which they called 'Nucleicititus.' The sickness which was caused by breathing in the foul oxygen and affected people many different ways; though usually the result was always the same. Death.
Frank couldn't bare the thought of losing Gerard. Not to the sickness which killed without an ounce of mercy. Not when he still had a lot to tell him. Not when he still hadn't said those three words under the sun which Gerard had promised to see with him. Because more than anything did Frank want Gerard's theory to come true and the both of them to look at the blue sky and see everything they had imagined.
"Hey." Mikey whispered. "It got brighter." Frank's thought process paused for a split second as he tried to make sense of what Mikey said. Then, he suddenly realized what the younger Way brother meant. "Oh." Frank said. "Oh." Gerard agreed.
"It's started." Was all Tyler whispered. "So I hope you guys are ready to finish it." The three were left gazing at the sky in wonder as Tyler and Josh pulled off a disappearing act no-one else could've accomplished.
"I...I haven't noticed." Gerard said in a quiet voice. "But I guess it's been getting brighter now, huh? That's why we stopped carrying lights. Because the sky began supplying it for us."
And although Frank wanted to believe that true, he still had a hard time seeing the good side of things. He had a hard time thinking that the sun would come out, that the stars would appear. Sure, he wanted it, but Frank never received his wants and his happiness was another story. So no, Frank thought to himself. The light was only an illusion. Nothing in which was possible. "No." He mumbled. "We've just lived in the darkness for so long that we had found a way to see through it."
"That was beautiful Frank." Gerard complimented. "But so saddening. The reason we see the light is because we have fought through the darkness. In no way are we still living in what had began to fade long ago."
"Fuck you and your poetry." Frank said somewhat jokingly, trying to make himself sound like he was joking and not being an asshole. Unfortunately though, Frank's words never come out right and his sentance sounded like a jab towards Gerard's.
Mikey of course, noticed the tension in the air the moment it arrived. The younger teen backed away, looking slightly annoyed but also fearful as he was trapped between the two men.
"Why do you always have to be so fucking negative all the time?" Gerard spat, venom lacing his tone. "Me negative? Says you." Frank shot back. "Oh yeah, because I'm always an asshole, right? Frank. You need to stop." "Stop what? I just said that you were just imagining it getting brighter. Jesus Christ. You don't have to be so defensive about it." "Frank," Gerard ended his sentance at the last moment, biting his lower lip and allowing his hair to fall into his face.
"So?" Frank asked sarcastically; causing Mikey to look very uncomfortable. Which Frank knew he probably was since he was stuck between the two as they argued. "So nothing Frank. I don't want to argue." Unfortunately Frank did want to argue since, well, he didn't know. Frank was just feeling bitter.
"Well obviously it was something." "My God, Frank! Shut up, okay!? I don't want to fight with you. I swear you just want to keep arguing sometimes." He said with a sigh. "I'm clearly not the one who wants to argue since you started it in the first place." Frank pointed out, causing Gerard to mumble something under his breath.
