Chapter 29:

I sat on the bench. I wasn't very impressed, but I didn't have much option. Be benched for a match or be suspended from play? I'd choose the bench every time.

The team jogged onto the field, choosing to play Kappes instead of me. It was a good decision. If I had to choose someone to play instead of me, it would be Kappes every time. He knew how to play the position. He knew the rules, and he was fucking good at playing.

When they got the captains in the middle, I looked away. I didn't want to see the smirk that I was sure was on Felix's mouth. But, when I did look up, Felix wasn't there. I could see George, but he wasn't shaking Felix's hand. It was some other kids. I nearly laughed.

Felix was sitting on the bench opposite me, not happy at all. I guessed he hadn't been included in the decision to bench himself.

Just before play started, Felix, their coach and a few substitutes moved benches, so they were sitting next to me.

It made my blood boil. He made me so angry, just being around me. I hated him with a passion.

The ref blew the whistle, and the game started. There was some passing between the Frogs, and then Clark obviously got annoyed because he thought that it would be a good idea to ram one played, and then take the other one out with his boot.

Everyone made a collective "Ohhhhhhhhh!" and the ref yellow carded him. Clark pretended to be angry, but that really should have been a red so he didn't push it. Coach sitting next to me was angry. Felix on the other side of me seemed to be in quite a jovial mood.

"Shane obviously isn't in a good mood." he said.

"Obviously not."

I really wanted to hit him.

"Oh," he said "but you're not talking now, are you?"

"Piss off Felix." I said.

"Should have been a red, though. You agree with me, right?" he asked.

"Maybe I do, but I'm ignoring you right now."

He stopped pushing for conversation. Honestly, if he was the captain of another team, we might have got on. But because he was a Frog, every little thing he did wound me up.

I started watching the match again.

Some Frog slammed into George, and then felt onto him so that they were both on the floor. George got up and brushed it off, but the Frog milked it.

"Your new boy should learn the rules. You can't put a person on the ground." Felix smirked.

"You know that was your mans fault! George didn't touch him!" I said.

"The ref doesn't seem to think so."

I looked at the ref, and he was giving George a yellow card.

"Ref, do you even fucking know what your doing?" I shouted.

Coach shot me a look, and I didn't carry on with my well-rehearsed speech.

George accepted the yellow card. He shouldn't have, but then again he didn't have a choice. He just nodded and carried on playing.

Next thing I knew, Sam was on top of some guy, beating the shit out of him.

I smirked, and Felix's face fell. Obviously, they'd used their only decent sub to replace him. And there was no way this guy was going to keep playing.

The ref blew the whistle, and our team pulled Sam off the other guy. He was red carded.

He jogged off the pitch and apologised to Coach.
