Apparently, Big Soup Spoon and Little Soup Spoon had real names: the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper. So did the Man with Sticks: the Archer.

Aquila thought those names were boring as she flipped through her Astronomy book. If she had to wait to see the stars until Wednesday, she'd read about them in the mean time. She learned about the moon phases and that they were effected by the sun and the position of earth. She was relived to find out that the moon never really left.

Still, she longed to see them. She wanted to see the Big and Little Dipper and find out what phase of the moon was out. It's probably a waxing gibbous, Aquila thought. She was probably wrong, but she liked the term waxing gibbous best out of all the moon phases.

Of course, her free period didn't last all day, and Aquila travelled to Transfiguration with Cedric. He rambled on about how he'd be the best Seeker in the world one day, and Aquila talked about the moon and the stars.

"How do you like that stuff?" he asked. He didn't understand a word she was saying, and he didn't want to. The stars were too far away to be important to his life. It wasn't like the stars would ever directly impact his wellbeing.

"The same way you like Quidditch, I guess," Aquila said with a shrug. The two sat down next to each other and waited for Professor McGonagall to begin the lesson.

They didn't learn any fancy Transfiguration spells, and Aquila was a little bummed. She wanted to learn to become a cat like their professor, who opened the lesson by showing the class her Animagius form. The woman looked wicked cool, and there was nothing Aquila wanted more than for her to change back so she could pet the professor all period.

"I want to be a cat, too," she whispered to Cedric. "I want to be fluffy and cute and have little whiskers and be able to curl up into little, tiny balls."

"I want to be a Seeker," he whispered back. "I want to have a fast broom and win the World Cup."

She rolled her eyes, "All you ever talk about is Quidditch."

"All you ever talk about are the stars."

"But the stars are cool."

"And I'll be one when I'm a Seeker."

"I sure hope this conversation pertains to the lesson," Professor McGonagall said, interrupting their argument. The no-nonsense look in the woman's eyes made Cedric gulp, but Aquila had seen that look before from her mother. Her confidence never faltered as she responded.

"Yes, it does," Aquila told the woman. "I asked him how to spell that word you were saying."

"It's right on the board, Miss Whitman," Professor McGonagall informed the green haired first year. "If you can't see it, I suggest you invest in some glasses."

"I do think I would look quite lovely in a pair like Dumbledore's," the first year said as if she were thinking out loud. "Little half moons..."

The glare from the professor told her to stop talking.

"Oops," Aquila said. "My bad, Professor. Sorry to disrupt the lesson."

Professor McGonagall went back to teaching the lesson, and Aquila noticed Cedric trying to hold back a laugh. "Shut up, Ced," Aquila whispered. "I got us both out of detention."

"My bad, professor," he mocked. "Oops."

She kicked him under the desk. "The oops was before the my bad."

Sadly, Aquila's next lesson was without Cedric. She would be alone with her housemates, and they didn't really like her. It was even more unfortunate that her next class was Potions, and Professor Snape already didn't like her (Aquila didn't like him either).

He assigned seats in that class, partnering Slytherins with other Slytherins, and Gryffindors with out her Gryffindors. She ended up being partnered with Abby, and Abby thought she knew everything about potions.

"Can anyone tell me the difference between Monkshood and Wolfsbane?" Professor Snape asked.

Abby's hand shot up. "There is no difference."

"Ten points to Slytherin," Professor Snape granted. Aquila noticed how shiny his hair looked, and she made a note to herself to buy him some soap for Christmas.

"That was such a basic question," Abby whispered to nobody.

"Shh," Aquila shushed her. "I'm trying to listen to the lesson."

"That's not what happened in Transfiguration," Abby muttered.

Aquila ignored her. There was something about Abby that set her off. Maybe it was her know-it-all attitude; maybe it was her distaste for Hufflepuffs. Aquila didn't know quite what it was, but she did know that Abby wasn't going to be her favorite potions partner.

Snape continued talking about simple potions ingredients for the duration of the period, and Aquila took sparse and useless notes. She was too busy thinking about the stars and wishing Cedric was there with her so they could laugh at the professor's haircut together.

After class, Aquila tried to exit as quickly as possible. She didn't want to have to look at Snape's skinny, oily face for another second. She had also heard that there were some really nice Ravenclaws in her next class, and she was sure one of them would talk to her. Unfortunately, Carlos stopped her.

"You got me detention yesterday," he reminded her.

"So I've been told," she said. "Your point?"

"I'm not happy," he told her.

"Go cry somewhere else, then," Aquila said. She pushed past him and continued on her way to History if Magic. When she arrived, she sat down by the window and noticed the moon was present in the sky. "Dumbledamn," she muttered, "it was a waxing crescent."

A Ravenclaw girl walked over to where Aquila sat. Her hair was braided behind her back in one long strand, and when the Slytherin saw her, she thought her hair looked like a long vine from a tree. "Hey," the Ravenclaw greeted with a smile. "Mind if I sit next to you?"

"Not at all," Aquila said. She was so happy that someone had came to talk to her. She smiled and decided that this girl was her friend.

"I'm Cassie," the girl told her.

"Aquila. Nice to meet you."

"You too," Cassie said. "You seem lonely."

"I am," she replied. "My only friend is in Hufflepuff, and I don't get to have class with him again until tomorrow."

"That's too bad," Cassie said. "In the mean time, do you mind if I talk to you? My friend is a Hufflepuff too."

"It seems we're in the same boat here," Aquila noted. "Welcome aboard."

Cassie smiled, "This boat seems fun."

"With me as the captain, this boat is definitely fun!"

Cassie giggled. "I think I like you."

"That's good," Aquila told her. "You'd be silly not to. I'm a very likable person."

Cassie and Aquila talked for the rest of the class. Aquila liked her, and she thought that they'd be good friends. She was glad that Cassie understood her sense of humor and didn't think she was bragging about herself. At the end of class, Aquila decided to tell Cassie about the stars leaving her messages.

"And sometimes, I can hear them whisper to me!" Aquila exclaimed. "Isn't that cool?"

"Aquila," Cassie said taking a deep breath. "Stars can't talk."
