Second year was done and gone, and Carlos hadn't done anything to Aquila. It was a peaceful and uneventful year, and she was glad it had come to an end. The amount of detentions she got from her own brother was ridiculous, and she was overjoyed he was finally gone.

Her third year wasn't nearly as dull.

A certain celebrity had come to Hogwarts that year, and like most students, Aquila wanted to meet him. Harry Potter, the boy who survived a killing curse, was walking down the corridors of Hogwarts.

He probably has loads of friends and admirers, Aquila thought. I'll bet he's the most popular boy in his year!

Needless to say, Aquila had been very wrong. She ended up owing the twins twenty galleons for her foolish bet. According to Fred and George, Harry's only friend was their younger brother Ron.

"Remind me never to make bets with you two again," Aquila said.

"But if we did that," Fred said. "How would we cheat you out of twenty galleons?"

"Isn't our friendship more important than a few galleons?" Aquila asked.

"No," they said in unison.

Aquila rolled her eyes, "What'd you need the money for anyway?"

"We're buying supplies to pull a prank on the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor," George told her.

"What has the man done to you?"

"He gave us detention for throwing peas at the back of his turban," Fred explained. "And it's not even the first day."

"I'm not surprised," Aquila said. "Enjoy polishing picture frames tomorrow night."

Over the summer, Aquila took in upon herself to buy a few new advanced spell books. The night after the Sorting, she sat in the Slytherin common room with the fifth year volume of a charms book. She was practicing the wand motions for the summoning charm when she heard footsteps coming down a staircase.

Quickly, Aquila laid down on a couch with her eyes opened just wide enough to see the unmistakable feet of Carlos Blake.

"I know you're awake, Whitman," he said.

Aquila loudly snored in an attempt to get rid of him, but it only gave her away. Carlos tapped his foot impatiently until Aquila couldn't take the sound any longer.

"Merlin's knickers, what do you want?" Aquila asked, sitting up.

"Did you hear about the Trelawney girl?" he asked.

"You wake me up from my peaceful slumber to ask me about a professor's daughter?" she asked. She put her hands on her hips. "Why didn't you bother your girlfriends?"

"I can't go into the girls' dorms, so I chose to bother you," he said. "I thought maybe we could call a truce and be friends."

Aquila stood up from the couch and sighed, "Blake, if you think two a. m. is as acceptable time to call a truce, you're far from right. I don't want to be your friend, and I don't want to gossip with you about first years."

"Do you even know who Professor Trelawney is?" he asked. "She's the Divination professor-surely you're taking that. I heard she's a complete nutter! I bet her daughter is equally as crazy-"

"I don't think you got the message," Aquila said. "I. Don't. Want. To. Talk. To. You. Go away."

"Fine, but I'm telling you-"

She wanted him to leave her alone, and on instinct, she said the first spell that popped into her mind. "Accio candle!"

A candle from the fireplace mantle flew towards her and hit Carlos on the back of his head. He fell backwards on to the floor.

"Finally," Aquila said. "Peace and quiet."

She closed her spell books and walked into the girls' dorms, leaving her fellow third year passed out on the floor.

Aquila woke up to Abby and Alexis gossiping about Trelwaney's daughter, Moaning Myrtle, and Carlos.

"I heard Carlos's parents are sending him a Howler!" Abby said.

"They bloody well should," Alexis said. "He shouldn't even call himself a Blake!"

"Hanging out with Trelawney's nutty daughter!" Abby said. "We're all so lucky your boyfriend sent his parents that letter."

"Did you hear what that perverted, lesbian ghost said to me yesterday?" Alexis asked her sister.

"Ugh, she shouldn't have said that. Rude!"

"You know what else is rude?" Aquila asked, rubbing her eyes. "Talking really loud in the morning!"

"Nobody was talking to you!" Alexis told her.

"Do I look like I care?" the green haired girl asked. She sat up and stretched. "Oh, while we're gossiping, did you hear that Carlos got knocked out by a floating candlestick at precisely two seventeen last night in the common room?"

Before either twin could respond, Aquila went to the bathroom to change into her robes. When she came out, Alexis stood by the door with her wand raised.

"If you're expecting me to put my hands up," Aquila told her, "it's not happening."

"You hit my boyfriend with a candle!" Alexis yelled.

"Thanks for noticing," Aquila said. She pushed Alexis's wand down and walked to her bed.

"You're not funny, Whitman!" Alexis said.

"Neither are you!" Aquila said. "At least I don't run around calling ghosts lesbians!"

Suddenly, a plan formed in her mind. She walked over to Alexis's bed and took a hair from off her pillow. "Your hair is a little greasy, Lexi," she said. "You should probably shower before breakfast."

"Rude!" Alexis yelled. "Con-"

"Expeliarmous!" Aquila yelled. Alexis wand flew out of her hand. "See you later, Greenwall."

Aquila grabbed her bag and skipped down to the Hall.

Alexis and Carlos weren't going to get away with anything that morning. Not without consequences.
