Aquila never really thought that talking to the stars was something she should hide. She never thought there was anything weird or strange about it. She thought it was cool and mysterious. Apparently there was something horrible about it, and the kids at Hogwarts were all in complete shock after they found out.
After Cassie spread the news that Aquila could "talk to the stars," the green haired girl was really alone. It wasn't long until Carlos and the Greenwalls began calling her "Star Girl" as a taunt, and it wouldn't be long before Cedric found out either. Would he laugh at her like the rest of them? Would he call her Star Girl too?
She hated being called names and hexed quite a few people for doing it. She had taken it upon herself to learn a few new hexes and jinxes for anyone who dared call her Star Girl. Luckily, she had a big brother who was more than happy to help her learn some advanced spells (only if she promised never to use them on him).
She wouldn't hesitate to use the same ones on Cedric if he jumped on the "Make Fun of Aquila" bandwagon as well. While she valued her friends, she knew that her own happiness was the most important. She didn't care who insulted her; that person was going down.
Aquila avoided everyone all day. She managed to do a fairly good job, until History of Magic. She had that class with the Hufflepuffs, and as usual, Cedric sat down beside her. He didn't seem to realize that something was wrong.
She wanted to ask him if he heard the rumors. She wanted to lie to him and say she couldn't talk to stars and that Cassie was a liar. She wanted him to say something before she exploded.
"Are you alright, Quil?" Cedric asked her. "You seem upset."
"Do I?" Aquila asked sarcastically. She instantly regretted it after seeing the look on Cedric's face: pure concern for his friend.
"What's bugging you?" he asked. He went to grab her arm to comfort her, but another voice sounded behind them, and Aquila spun around in her chair.
"Hey, Star Girl!" Abby taunted. "Getting any messages from the sky?"
"That," Aquila said, answering Cedric. She turned back around and put her head on the desk. A long, loud groaning sound came from her lips, making Aquila sound like a large whale. She covered her ears to block out the Greenwalls.
"Hey Star Girl!" Alexis jeered. "Star Girl-"
Cedric pulled her hands away from her ears. "Why are they calling you that?" he asked.
"Because of this rumor a girl spread about me," Aquila answered. She raised her head off of the desk and looked Cedric in the eyes. "She told everyone I can talk to the stars."
"Can you?" he asked curiously.
"Of course not!" Aquila said a little too quickly. "It's just a bloody rumor." She thought it best to lie and find out how he'd react from there. If she had flat out said "yes," and he made fun of her, she would never forgive herself for losing her only friend.
"Then ignore it," Cedric told her. "If it isn't true, it doesn't matter. Besides, talking to the stars sounds really cool; it's nothing to be ashamed of."
Aquila mentally slapped herself. Why didn't she just tell him the truth? He wouldn't've thought any less of her; he was her best friend.
"You think?" she asked. A smile formed on her lips.
"Yeah," he said. "I always wondered what the stars by the Little Dipper said."
"They can be a little sassy at times," Aquila admitted. After realizing what she said, she mumbled, "Dumbledamn."
"What?" Cedric asked.
"Oh," Aquila chuckled, her cheeks turning red, "that's what my brother says when he does something stupid."
"No, not that," he clarified. "You can talk to the sassy stars?"
"Yes, stop making a big deal out of it," Aquila told him, putting her head back on the desk.
"You are Star Girl."
She sat back up and glared at him, "Are you insulting me?"
"Not Star Girl as a bad thing," he told her. "It's a good thing. Not everyone can say they can talk to stars. I think Star Girl is really fitting."
"But they're using it as an insult," she pointed out.
"But it's super cool!"

With Cedric's help, Aquila had learned how to ignore most of the Star Girl comments. However, that didn't stop her from getting revenge on Cassie. Aquila had taken the girl's telescope and hurled it off the astronomy tower "by accident."
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't ignore Carlos or the Greenwall twins. Abby was getting more tolerable, but Alexis wasn't. Aquila thought that she and Carlos met up at night to discuss new insults for her because every morning she'd wake to Alexis standing over her. She would say something along the lines of, "Morning, star brain," and the insults would get stupider with each passing day.
Ignoring that was the easy part.
When it came to anything involving Cedric, everyone in Slytherin would shun her. "Hufflepuffs don't mingle with our kind," Carlos alluded one evening in the common room. Aquila had been minding her own business, filling in the rest of her star charts, when Carlos began talking rather loudly. She had the sneaking suspicion that he was talking about her.
"I couldn't agree more, Car," Alexis added in the same loud tone. She glared at Aquila, who had made the mistake of peeking up from her assignment. Aquila returned the look and went back to her work.
"I can't believe some people would go against everything we stand for," he continued. "Talking to mudbloods and Hufflepuffs! Only traitors do such things."
Aquila rolled her eyes and thought about what Cedric would tell her to do. Stay calm. Ignore them; they're trying to get to you. She smiled, thinking of her best friend. Even the thought of his fluffy brown hair made her tune out the world.
"Did you hear a word I just said?" Alexis asked Aquila. Somehow, she had managed to get up in the green haired girl's face while she had dozed off.
"Nope," Aquila said, popping the p. She remained nonchalant, and Alexis growled.
"Figures," the other Slytherin girl muttered. "You're just as dumb as your Hufflepuff boyfriend."
Aquila slowly looked up at Alexis, setting her star charts on her lap. "What did you just say about Cedric?"
"He's a bloody moron!" Alexis said as if it was obvious. Carlos nodded in agreement from behind her.
Calmly, Aquila put her books and her quill down on the table next to her and sat up straight. "You see, Lexi," she said as nicely as possible. "I think you've mixed up the people. You said Cedric was the moron, when in reality, it's you and Carlos here who are colossal morons. A moron wants to sound smart, so they call smart people morons. I know how this works; don't try to lie about your stupidity, kay?"
"I am no moron!" Alexis yelled, grabbing the collar of Aquila's robes.
Easily, Aquila pushed her hand away, "But you sure are acting like one." The girl stood up and went to bed.
They could insult her all they wanted; she couldn't care less anymore. Besides, they all knew they'd get hexed. But when they messed with Cedric, it was a whole different story. Cedric wasn't someone they should be messing with, and Aquila would make it her number one priority to make their lives hell if they so dared to. He stood by her, so she stood by him.
Alexis had dared to bring Cedric into the fight; Aquila was ready to win.
