CHAPTER 10: Am I The Only Human?

I shift back into my human form after almost an hour after kicking out my brother and his pack.

I was and still am very pissed off after hearing about the things him and Danny had done to her. Mate or not, NO woman should ever be treated in such a manner. He was raised better than that.

Now with them gone though, I can protect Ruby and tell her that we're mates, or at least try and explain it to her.

While I make my way back towards the house, I take in a breath and let it out before walking into the house and stop as soon as I see Ruby talking with Kathleen and Mike and as soon as she turns and see's me, she starts to smile.

"Listen, Ruby, I understand if...." I begin but she stops me by smashing her lips onto mine  and throwing her arms around me as I do with her after I start kissing her back.

Then as we both stop to take a breath and look at each other we hear Mike behind her.

"We'll talk later." Him and Kathleen begin to leave Ruby and me alone.

"Not that I'm complaining but, what was that for?" I asked.

"Oh god, I'm sorry." She says removing her arms around me and seems embarrassed. "I thought that since we're mates that we should...nevermind, I'm sorry." She repeats.

"No. Don't be. Wait, did you just say that we should kiss because we're mates? How did you know?" I asked confused.

"Jai told me." She says.

"That son of a..." I begin but she cuts me off.

"Don't be upset with him. I'm glad that he told me." She smiles.

"Really? You're okay with it?"

"Well, yeah. But only if you feel the same way but if not, I can just leave and...." she starts but I stop her with pressing my lips against hers as I hold her face.

"You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear that." I tell her. "But why didn't you tell me you knew already?"

"I was afraid of Lecter finding out and then hurting me worse or telling the council about us and your title being taken away." She says.

"Trust me, that won't happen. I know it doesn't sound like it's possible with humans as our servants and all and even though it's rare, it does happen. Besides, I don't care what anyone says or thinks. As far as I'm concerned, no one can question fate or the decisions the Moon Goddess makes." I assure her.

Thankfully that makes her smile which I will never get tired of seeing.

"I'll admit that I questioned things myself in the beginning." I tell her.

"Me too." She replies.

"Well, let's start over and get to know each other better." I suggest.

"Okay." She agrees.

"Awww...." We hear Kathleen say from the kitchen.

"Oh god." We start to laugh.

"What?! It's just to see that things are gonna go back to the way they used to be." She says.

"What do you mean?" Ruby asks. "Nothing changes. I'm still gonna do things around the house." Ruby tells them.

"No. You don't have to clean up after anyone or serve anyone ever again. As the future Luna of my pack and my Queen, you don't do any of that." I tell her.

"But I'm not leaving everything to Kathleen and Mike. They can't do it all themselves." She tells me with an assertive tone.

"I'm not going to argue with you. However, you're not going to go by that title ever again and neither are Mike and Kathleen." I tell her.

"What do you mean? Wait, you're not going to fire them are you?!" She starts getting defensive.

"No. Well, yeah, sort of. It's hard to explain." I start.

"What's there to explain?! You're an asshole for firing them and I won't let you do that!" She protests.

I can't stop but chuckle as well as Kathleen and Mike at how cute she looks and sounds right now.

"Oh honey, trust me, this boy here can't fire us. Not to mention that we aren't really his servants." Kathleen says and laughs.

"What?" Ruby asks her confused. "Are you guys messing with me?"

"Nope. It's true. We aren't servants here. In fact, we pretended we were so that we could stay here and look over things for Alpha Boulder while he was away." She explains.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, both Kathleen and I are werewolves too and were great friends of their parents and we knew the only way we could stay and do that was to work as servants. Which was only possible because Lecter had never met us when he was younger. We were friends of their parents." She smiles at Ruby and then at me.

"Are you guys being serious with me right now?" Ruby asks confused as she looks back and forth a few times at all three of us.

"It is." I promise her.

"So I'm the only human in this house?" She asks nervous.

"For now." I tell her with a wink and smile.
